Those Who Have Used Opti Coat

I have a friend of mine that is a tractor trailer driver that owns his own truck. He wanted to opticoat his tractor and trailer. He wanted to know how much opticoat it would take to do the job. Have any of the detailers on the forum opticoated such a large vehicle before.

So, if I'm interpreting this right, there's a window (after ~12 hours but not over ~30 days) where you can avoid the scuffing, but after that it's back to scuffing the whole panel. Am I understanding this correctly?

That is what my understanding is as well. >~30 days, without lightly scuffing/buffing the entire panel after (for example) a spot repair, I’ll wager you might have quite a mess on your hands given Chris’ description of what OC will do on an unprepared layer of itself. I would imagine it would “take” on the spot you corrected but then you would have problems on the surrounding areas bordering the repair.

….btw, I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one confused by some of the responses.

You'd probably need one tube for just the cab. I can cover about 4 cars per tube or two full sized SUVs and a small car.

BTW, I really appreciate the info; I know my concerns aren't really relevant to most OptiCoat users.

Sorry, I just saw the thread, did not receive email notification on it... Anyways, I should have clarified that you have up to a month to layer the new version. After that I have used Optimum Hyper Polish followed by a quick wipe down of Power Clean and water mixture, wiped dry and applied a new layer. I would be hesitant to try it without prep on the 28th day or so but within 15-20 days you should be in the clear.

Today I will be Opti Coating my new shop sign which is a 4'X8' sign and will post photos soon after. It's a new sign and has not been put outside yet and I know it's UV protected already from the graphics and decal guy but I thought it would be nice to add another layer. Since it's black, I'd like to keep the water spotting to a minimum as well.

Accumulator, I was sceptical at first so waited for months. Then I presented the idea and product to a friend of mine who said he would pay me to do it and try it out. I did and couldn't believe how easy it was to apply it. Prepping is the part that people need to worry about and make sure the vehicle is dust and oil free. I used an ipa wipe down even though if you use all Optimum Products, which I did and do, you don't have to ipa and just use water and power clean. Now I just wash the vehicle by pre soaking in car wash shampoo then a good cleaning with some power clean in the wash bucket. I do the jambs and everything. I then dry it and blow out all cracks and jambs then one quick wipe down with microfiber towel and start applying. I pre wipe each panel in case of dust, apply as stated on the directions and lightly wipe the panel for high spots and so on. I coat everything just about, even the exhaust tips, plastic and glass.

If there needs to be spot repair after 30 days, say on the hood, then wash the car, clay bar and polish the hood, ipa or power clean mixture, dry and apply new coat. Pretty simple and so far from personal experience its great and my customers love it.

Sorry, I didnt mean to turn this into a "how to apply Opti Guard" thread, just explaining how easy it is.to use.

Shawn F.- Yeah, it's easy enough and lots of pluses, but that "polish the (entire) hood for a spot-repair" is the deal-breaker for me; I hardly *EVER* polish an entire panel any more. Once that gets sorted out I expect I'll use it quite a bit.
