Those Pesky Car Emblems????

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
I worked on three cars over the weekend..two of which had those sliver styled emblems, glued to the car...like the ones that are on MB, BMW and most American cars

The dirt and product build-up was unbelievable

I have a method for cleaning the emblems but its time consuming....was just wondering what others here have as a process for cleaning these from start to finish?

Thanks

Using a very soft toothbrush with a QD was my method for years. Since I started using Poorboy's Spray & Wipe, I use it instead of a QD. I think a paint brush would work with the S&W. The S&W seems to loosen the dirt enough that it is easy wipe away, just not always easy to get to.
I don't usually have the misfortune of working on really messed up cars so it isn't a big problem for me.
I do it regularly so the buildup isn't bad at all. Kind of like keeping an engine compartment clean as opposed to doing the initial cleaning.

Thanks Charles one thing that comes to mind is at the wash stage...to use some APC with a tooth brush....that should loosen up all the dirt around the letters...then once done I have some spray on wax that should help to get into the corners and clean up....lastly I spray it with an aerosol can polish that I have...much like Stoners trim shine

I have a few different ways I attack emblems.

If the paint is faded in and around the emblem then I use a one-step like PwS or Poli-Seal with a soft bristle brush and then polish it out with a microfiber before it dries.

If it is a bit of stubborn build-up, I use some apc and my vapor steamer.

My mild method is the QD with a soft bristle brush as mentioned by Charles.

Emblems can be a chore sometimes. I used to detail an older diesel Mercedes that had major diesel fume build-up around the back emblems. That was before I had the vapor steamer and the one-step wax method was the only thing that worked and it took a while.
