This is how I like business to happen...

Just had a call from a total stranger saying he'd seen me detail his neighbour's car and thought I did a fantastic job - could I come and do his car. This is a first for me (as I've only just started my business) so imagine the stupid grin I get on my face when he tells me it's a Ferrari 360! :spot

My first "out of the blue" client and my first Ferrari all in one day - roll on next Monday! :woohoo:

Congratulations!

It will be great to get a reputation in the sort of neighborhood where people park Ferraris. Find some ways to show your appreciation to customers there who refer you to others -- and remember that these customers are not the ones motivated by a discount, no need to cut your prices to get more business here.

That really is how it works. Normally, once you get into a neighborhood and do good work, you will get calls from others who have seen your work.

Always good to hear. Did you just start detailing professionally? I'm going to be starting up my business in a couple of weeks after I get settled moving, hope to be posting a thread like this myself;)

Basically yes. I was always fastidious about keeping my own car clean but had never really thought about doing anymore than that. Then, in February, a friend rings me and says "I'm through with cleaning my car, I just hate doing it - do you know any good valeters in our area". At this point I said I'd come and do it for him as he knew I could do it (having seen my own car) and that I wouldn't stitch him up etc.

The next day, after he drove to work, I got a call from his boss saying he'd just seen the car I'd detailed and wanted his done. And really it just snowballed from there. More people saw more cars, I started getting more enquiries and started to charge people proper money rather than "mates rates". So I decided what the heck - ordered a load more products, a van, got my company incorporated, got the business stationery designed (it's at the printers now) and this is where we are today.

I'm hoping to grow the business much further than it being "me in a van" (to the extent where I have a few vans, a few shops, and can offer chips/scratch removal, alloy wheel refurbs, PDR and windscreen chip repairs etc), but Rome wasn't built in a day so this is just fine for now. All I'm happy about is that the business is going in the right direction.
