Think gas prices are high where you are??

So lately here in Hungary the gas prices have been going up almost weekly and they've just announced another all-time high for gas prices is to be expected next week. The price of 95 octane gas will be raised to 337 Hungarian forints/liter next week... that equals to a rounded $6.50 for one gallon of gas. And this is in a country where the average salary is roughly $450 a month.

Time to buy a new detailing rig Jesse! :D

We're at around $4.50 (rounded from conversion) a gallon up here. Americans have it really good when it comes to gas prices.

I had to go off for lunch today so on the way back I stopped and filled up my truck, $65.00 @ $2.68.9 a gallon. 2 hours later at the same gas station the same fuel was $2.72.9 a gallon...

I paid $2.52 (Gal) a few days ago where I live.

One of CNN's financial gurus has said gas will be over $4 average this summer.

$3.09 for 93 octane tonight. The oil speculators are going to kill any recovery by jerking the market around again.

Sign of the greedy times. Not too many years ago, $70 US a barrel was the all time high, (or was it $50).

Now up here, most oil companies are dragging their feet until it hits around $85 a barrel (which it is now close). Before they figure it is worth the extra investment. One of the main problems is labour/wages. When oil was over $85 to all time highs, oil service companies jacked their labour rates, to the point were the big oil companies said enough.

I know many people in the oil business, and it was insane the money they made when the market was up.

A couple of examples. A service rig company, started by a guy I went to school with- sold for millions a few years a go, had to lay off some of the crew because of the cut backs. The guys with years with the company had to take a pay cut of $10 an hour. They still make $80-$120K a year.

I have a few friends that are rig consultants, basically sit in your truck or field office and represent the big oil company. Lots of responsibility, usually not much work. They could bill $1600 or so a day. Now they might be only $1000 a day. No brainer that they want to work everyday. Fort McMurray is way higher.

So the precedent has been set. Once the oil price goes up it might not stop until $200 a barrel.

Low grade here is $4.50 a Can gallon.

You have to keep in mind the travel criteria between the two continents. In the US, I have to drive a few miles to go to a local grocery store, 10-15 miles to go to the mall, and 30 miles to go to work. Those figures are drastically different in many European countries. Back home, everything and anything is *near by*; in the states, it feels like everywhere I go is a voyage. Furthermore, I find that on overwhelming average, the vehicles there are much more economical (at least they were when I last visited). Unfortunately, the price of gas overseas (and even in the states) is inexcusable. :sadpace:

Give it 5 to 10 years, I'm willing to bet 70% of new vehicles will be as efficient as a hybrid.

It was 1.5x euro for a litre of petrol when I was in France in 2006. I'm used to paying ~4 clams a gallon, up to 6 or so wouldn't drastically alter my lifestyle as I already take the bus and plan trips as it is.

Our great leader lol Socialist just signed a bill that all cars produced must have a 35 mpg minimum. Our country is ruined already. I'm ready to move oversea's.

What's wrong with that ? Less dependancy on fossil fuels, less pollution to our environment, etc. I'm no "greenie" by any means, but I like seeing government starting to force these auto makers who think they're above everything. Honestly, if I were the government back at the GM / Chrysler bail-out, I'd have given them stipulations on getting billions of taxpayer money, one of those stipulations being that they weren't allowed to produce gasoline or diesel engines anymore. The technology exists to run cars on electric, hydrogen and alternative fuels. Arnold has been driving around in a hydrogen powered Hummer for years. I, personally, am tired of the auto makers basically "forcing" those viable alternatives to the bottom of the barrel.

Not defending Obama but have you seen the same law in other countries? The minimum is much higher already as far as I remember from an article I was reading.

If I want to buy a 4 mpg car that has 900 horse power and guzzles gas, I should be able to. This was once a free country. I understand there need to be rules. Seriously whats next? I fought for, and defended this country once, I can honestly say today I'm not sure if I would do that again. This country took a ****. You could have had micky mouse in the democratic office. and he would have been elected. I'm not going to get into a political debate here, but seriously who really cares if a car gets 35 miles per gallon. Then there is health care which I won't even get into. I need to shut up. lol
