These guys claim their sealant they use lasts a year - is that really possible?

High Tech Formula PAINT SEALANTS AND PAINT SEALANT - STATE OF THE ART CAR SALON IN SAN DIEGO.

I did a search for "AT-5 Gold Plus Sealant" but nothing came up. Plus, I know that whenever someone tosses the word, "Teflon," around like that, it's a red flag. But these guys have been in business for over 25 years and get good reviews on Yelp.com, and they seem very detail oriented (even if unnecessarily according to this thread).

Note I fixed the typo in your link ;)

Also note that they require annual redos, at an additional cost.

There are some incredible new products on the market these days, but I doubt that those guys are using them. And too much of what's on their site sounds like BS (at least to me) for my taste; I simply wouldn't patronize that place..but that's just me and/but FWIW I *do* think that such protection packages are OK for some people; I actually go along with a friend's decision to get that kind of [stuff] from her dealer.

I have used the sealant and still have some, it is ok and is fairly easy to use. The only long term results I have noticed is on boats. It did not protect from UV damage, helped yes but not long term.

My understanding is it a very old Acrylic formula. 20 to 30 years old. There are many better products out today.

I got a sealant that supposed to last a long time. 8 car washes later it still beads very good and dirt doesent seem to stick so bad. This sealant is called the Protector. It is made by a company called E.C.P.

Are you talking about the "AT-5 Gold Plus Sealant?"

So is it generally agreed here that there are better sealants out there than this? If so, I'm gonna pass on this detail shop then.

First thing first...durability is overrated...I got waterspotting with sealants that still sheets water... Sealant is still there but the protection isn't...

But at least the water spots are on the sealant instead of the clear coat or paint, right? If so, the sealant did it's job (protect the clear coat and paint from water spots).

Not always. In many cases the water spots will eat right through your sealant and etch the paint.

Glass waterspots too-are you suggesting glass doesn't offer protection?

Yes that sealant. Probably lasts as long as KSG. But there are better coatings out today, from Opti-coat to all the Nano coatings coming out.

Thanks. If I do give these guys a shot, should I have them re-apply the sealant sooner than 1 year? If so, how soon? The car is a daily driver in San Diego and will be washed maybe every 2-4 weeks.

I'd have it redone as soon as some characteristic that you value changes for the worse. Beading/sheeting, dirt-shedding, slickness....something like that will drop off long before the looks start to get iffy, and IMO it's best to refresh sooner rather than later.
