The Ultimate Detail Shop

So imagine with me you're very own personal detail shop designed by you for you...

I did a google search and really came up shorthanded, yes there were a couple of high end high volume "successful" car wash/detail shops, but nothing that really stood out to me as unique or designed by pro detailers like us.

So what would yours look like?

What are the absolute must have equipment?

How would these things allow you to achieve absolute perfection for your clients?

Anything else you can think of....let's here your ideas....

I don't have much time to respond right now, but I just wanted to put this out.

There is a local fire station that closed up last year and the city has been trying to lease it out since. Every time I drive by I image how perfect it would be for a detail location.

Ok, so I'll start.

My ultimate detail shop would look like....

The exterior would look something like a high end plaza building with stucco and rock finishings and super large wood panel fire station like garage doors.

Inside would be beautiful multi sized, stagered mixture of colored tiles for flooring. Of course there would be lots of moldings from crown molding ceilings, multi mantels in which to display things...

Of course I would need drainage all threw out so I could wash vehicles inside.

I would like lots of cabinetry to hold all my supplies and a few different sized mobile carts that matched.

I would need at least two lifts, one to roll the entire car on and lift it so I could have access to undercarriage and such and another lift so I could remove the wheels and such.

I would need enough space to put at least two cars side by side and a good office area with a computer so I could get on Autopia and show off the cool cars with in-depth write ups I was doing on each... ;)

That's just an idea of what I'm talking about.

So what could you come up with if money were no object??

Sounds like the ideal building?

So what would you do with it to make it your ultimate shop?

as the ultimate "GEEK" -- I would build the "Autopian" auto boutique ...

it would have multiple lanes = fully automated

a scanner would read your VIN - it would know the hardness of your paint

- your color would be known for matching product for the best shine

autopian wash by a robot - never marr or swirl

robots to polish/seal/wax

gizmos would pop up on the floor as it kept a database of all wheels to get the right cleaning for the outside and inside of the wheels -

machines would have settings that knew window angles and floor angles to clean automatically -

30 minutes and done - good price for everyone - I'd make a boatload just watching the cash cow do its thing!!!

Andrian, nice ideas, sounds like you're going for the super high tech, fully digital, futuristic, LED everything detail/car wash bay..... NO HUMANS ALLOWED... :woot:

I especially like the idea of the robot reading the VIN and knowing all the cars finishes and such.

Assuming this would be for myself and no employees I would want the following:

  • 4 stalls (2 wide and 2 deep). The front two for washing and the back two for all the dry work.
  • Proper slopping floors and drainage for all stalls.
  • Well lit work areas with side lighting...maybe even some type of floor lighting around the dry stalls for doing correction (just a thought).
  • Small office
  • Small waiting room properly finished with sound proofing to cut back on tool noise, TV, Internet, water.
  • Clean restroom, small but adequate.
  • A small loft/bedroom would be nice for the late night multi-hour jobs, but not visible to clients.
  • Large air compressor and central vacuum with multiple lines/connection points, both enclosed and sound proofed. ( I hate my noisy compressor now!)
  • 2 Movable scissor lifts for cleaning undercarriage, removing wheels, and to alleviate back pain.
  • Plenty of product storage and counter space, large rack with 5 gal product dispensing or even a dilution system. Main product/towel access should be on both sides of vehicle as well as used towel disposal. Air tight storage for pads and towels.
  • Heat and A/C
  • Small laundry area with washer, dryer, and sink.
  • Air, vac, and electric cords on recoils.

I'd probably go for a 50's dinner looking theme in the building design, Neon, black and white checkered floor, old car memorabilia...

I may think of more later.

Hope fully I can make part of this a reality some day with a home edition. :D

I think this would be cool! If I ever won the lotto..........

Josh, I'll guess the pictures from Patrick come from Malaysian detail shops. I used to see similar ones posted on Meguiar's. It looks amazing for sure.
