The Sheik, His House, Cars, and One VERY Shiny Car!

Bill D

Hooked For Life
I received these images of a lifestyle in the Middle East. Among the photos is one of a particularly SHINY car. The setting isn't too bad either!

Absolutely incredible! All at gas prices hovering at/near/soon to surpass $3 a gallon! :wall

Ah ha! Thanks for the expose! I had seen a similar silver Mercedes maybe a year or so ago but it was clear marked chrome colored paint or something to that effect, not real silver like the claim of the Audi was,

Still, some pretty impressive locations and vehicles!

I'm not sure if that audi is "polished" to look like chrome. There are ways to paint a car to look like that. Most recently MTV had, trick it out, a tv show that put up and coming shops against each other. The final episode of the season one shop painted their car to look like chrome. :howdy

On the note of gas prices. I read the other day MSNBC that the spike
in gas prices was due to the federal goverment mandate all gas had
to have 10% ethanol and they were having a hard time keeping up
the demand and prices were spikeing on ethanol. This was supposed
help reduce our dependance on foreign oil. I think this administration
is filling their pockets with our money. Gas prices were regulated
and since the deregulation the gas prices are like the stock market
up and down daily. You notice it doesn't take any bad news or anything
with the crude prices for gas to go up 30 0r 40 cents in a day. The oil
companys are making record profits. This administration is enabling them
to do just that. It is the buddy system. Big oil and the good ole boys
from Texas hand in hand and both in our wallets. No pun to Texans
unless you are in Big Oil.

Just to clarify a point, if by the above statement you are referering to the president and vice president...niether are Texans nor are they from Texas.

George W. Bush
Birthplace: New Haven, CT
Education: MA, CT

Richard Bruce Cheney
Birthplace: Lincoln, NE
Education: WY, WI

Don't blame us down here for the actions (or inactions) of either of these two, we lay claim to neither.

No No No. It has nothing to do with Texans. George Bush has a large ranch in Texas. He was the govenor of Texas. I am talking about this administrations feeding thier buddys with lucrative no bid goverment contracts and enabiling big oil to price gas anyway they want. I watched a congressional hearing on tv about them investigating gouging at the gas pump anytime there
was any kind of bad news. Like a hurricane in the gulf. They would raise gas prices before it made landfall. I beleive it was one of biggest oil companys reps telling congress that they were merely pricing by market value being what people were willing to pay. What the @$^%? People are going to pay whatever they have to pay to get to work and the grocerys and so on.
Who do we think the biggest contractor in the gulf cleanup is? A subsidary of Haliburton. No Bid and big fees. Now, they say that the gulf region is short on policemen and are looking at a private firm to enforce the law. This firm is also a firm tied to Haliburton. They said the goverment would be paying
like $100000 a year for each officer. Yet if you were a policemen 35 to 40k. Please don't take any offence to the Texan thing. It's not about you. It's them.

I am in total accord with you on this, Bill. They are some terrific pictures and great locations. Some..the car...I had seen previously. Does not matter to me wether it is silver, chrome, or paint. It sure looks shiny!!

Crude oil prices are NOT set by the oil companies or evil gray haired, old men conspiring in the board rooms of Texas companies. The prices we pay are set by those who trade this commodity in the financial markets all over the world. Oil is a commodity like cotton, oranges, and copper. The price is set by supply and demand as well as world events, even weather patterns (record freezing winters and hurricanes). The MASSIVE thirst of oil coming from India and China, not to mention America's own addiction also significantly aid in the price of oil which affects gas prices / home heating, etc... We seriously need to cut back on our own consumption and significantly decrease our demand. That means getting soccer moms out of Ford Expeditions and half the other people who drive SUV's but have zero need for them besides the fact they have the right to own one. It comes with consequences.

Furthermore, regarding the price of gasoline, there is a little organization known as OPEC (our buddies in the Middle East) who helps to set the price of crude oil. What you pay as the pump per gallon - almost HALF goes to them. The next largest chunk goes to pay excise taxes and sales taxes on the federal, state and local levels. Then there is refining (making the gas), distribution (transportation) and marketing costs. Then the local station needs to make a buck too. All these factor into the price of a gallon of gasoline.

It is easy to vent towards the people "we" hate (the administration and oil companies). We need a whipping boy. Who cares if facts stand in the way! We can hate the Bush energy bill that gives tax breaks to oil companies. We can hate the oil companies for the horrible impact on the environment they cause. I know I have major problems with oil companies based on this. But people need to understand the MULTITUDE of reasons why oil and gas prices are the way they are and all the other players besides the oil companies who sets these prices.

If anything, we should support building more refineries creating more of a supply. That's an issue where oil companies are caught with their pants down. That's where the argument of deregulation (long before the Bush admin.) comes into play with higher prices coupled with no new refineries by the oil companies.

I'm not defending or bashing the administration, but this is a very detailed subject and the typical, regurgitated, blanket political statements are dopey.

Halliburton (a qualified, mega billion, highly diversified corporation which has been in business for 87 years LONG before Cheney) can afford to pay a certain number of security forces a $100k because they are a private company with the money given to them to do so. If it wasn't them getting the contract some other private company would get it and be able to pay $100k a head. You want to pay every state employed police officer a $100k, then raise taxes to cover the cost. While you're at it, you can pay every teacher a $100k too.

All companies make out like bandits from government contracts including minority and women owned businesses.
