The Power of Poorboys -- Lots of pics!

Just wanted to quickly post my story and a few pics.

I have been raised on detailing. My dad was always anal about our cars and we would drive them onto the front lawn and wax them up as a family. The tradition has carried on and I'm every bit as bad -- or worse -- with my OCD. I was a die-hard Meguiar's fan until recently when I decided to try some new stuff. I had a little stint with Zaino for awhile, but then I got hooked on Poorboy's because my friend from the Legend forums -- 91LSMAN -- swore by the stuff. I must say, I am extremely impressed! Here's my current regimen/arsenal of products:

Natty's paste wax (have white and blue, but haven't used the blue yet)

PB Spray and Wipe

PB Spray and Gloss

PB Natural Look

PB Bold N Bright

PB Air freshener

This stuff is the best investment I've ever made. Where my Meguiar's used to bead up for 2-3 washings, the Natty's holds up much longer IMO. I'm a believer. Here you'll see a few pictures (okay, a LOT) of my car in its worst times, and now in its best times.

Keep in mind, this is 12-year-old paint! The car has 193,000 miles. I bought it 2.5 years ago with 95,000. Needless to say, I drive the wheels off it.

First -- as is tradition -- here is some of the hell I've put my paint through:

These are the interior pics. The mats are my "show" mats and are only there for special occasions. The plastic is going to stay on the carpet through the winter (did I mention I'm OCD??). The trophy on the passenger seat is from a little show in Salt Lake called OCDetails -- sponsored by Anthony of OCDetails who is a regular here as "Jngrbrdman."

And the engine pics.

That's a gorgeous Legend! You may put it through a lot but you take care of it and it shows. It's hard to believe it's 12 years old. The styling still looks fresh to me. Many thanks for sharing with us.

You have got to be kidding me! That's unreal. That car looks amazing regardless of how many miles or how old it is. That really is just a great looking car, inside and out...195K? WOW. Congrats, that's what it's all about right there.

Loving it!

I had a 91 white legend that I got compliments all over for... the paint on these cars is awesome. (I had the car in 98 so it wasn't new!!)

To bad it's not a 6spd GS coupe :)

My parents have a 4dr GS and it's quick!

Ehh, LS coupe. The 4 door with the Type II motor is the GS. If I could find one with decent miles and in good condition and well, black on black, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. There's a guy on AcuraLegend.com that has a blk/blk GS 6 speed that lives near me. The car is simply beautiful!!

Looks good.

My question is how much trouble have you had with the car since you bought it with 95k? At 195k, you certainly have had some repair tickets-----what have they been?

Thanks everyone! Nice to see that people can appreciate my hard work. Detailing is a rewarding hobby :). The truth is -- these cars are OLD and there is little or no aftermarket support for them, and most of the ones that I still see around are getting beat up or rusted out. Hard to believe they've been out of production for over a decade!

As you can tell, I'm not afraid to drive the car but I do maintain it well. Just two weekends ago, I drove from Utah to Atlanta, Georgia and back (attended the NOPI Nationals show). The car made the 4,500 mile round-trip without a hitch, and I got a steady 30 mpg in 6th gear on the highway! I can't complain.

To be honest, all it's required is regular maintenance. I have spent nothing outside of routine scheduled items. I have all my oil changes done at Acura (either in SLC or Las Vegas) and my major interval services done at Honda/Acura specialty shops. The biggest bill so far was at 180k, when I had the timing belt, water pump, radiator (preventive only as these cars are notorious for cooling issues), spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, all drive belts, etc changed. The car has started every time for the 100,000 miles I've owned it. Part of the reliability, I'm sure, is due to the fact that I have receipts dating back to the car's first oil change. The original owner, who I bought it from in early 2003, was every bit as OCD about record-keeping as I am. Gotta love that!

SpoiledMan, you're right -- the highest trim in the coupe is the LS. What I wouldn't give for a 6-speed GS sedan, though! That's the rarest of the rare. Who's the guy you know in SoCal? Chances are I know him from the Legend forums. Is his SN "Fut"?

Thanks again for the comments... keep on detailing and I'll see you at 300,000! :D

That's a great looking car - your love for it shows. By the way, I really like your wheels, they compliment it well and make it look much "newer" than it actually is. I'm not normally into chrome but since its subtle on the Legend it looks nice.

Those exterior pictures are SO funny. Its kind of like the "Ugly duckling" that turned into a swan!

My wifes car is a 96 Chrysler LHS with 175,000 miles. I was proud of how I've kept up with it but no where like yours!!

Nice job

That looks amazing. Really can't believe the car is 12 years old. It gives me hope for my 11 year old Supra!

Your Legend is in outstanding condition! The leather seats are in incredible shape for the mileage and age of the car! I wish the leather in my 6-year-old 626 with about 60% of the mileage you have looked that good.

Paint looks terrific as well. :)

the car looks like new, especially inside :spit:

how have you put soo many miles on it ?? any major mechanical issues that needed to be addressed ??

awesome detail :grinno:

Welcome to the boards!

Nice work and big reps for higher mileaged Acuras/Hondas!

Congrats on the win at the show, you deserved it!
