The paint coming off on the pad

i was cleaning my father old VW pickup and the paint started coming off upon the pad. It left no visibal effects on the paint however when the pad is like this it doesnt clean as well. What should i do? :hairpull ... i washed and clayed the car before i started cleaning it. If i washed it another time after i clayed it, would it help?
 
It is probably a Single Stage paint. Pictures would help, but you would normally buff it just like clear coat except that you will get residue on the pad.
