Part of the inherent fun here is the WOW factor quest; the search for the new-new. The recent talk about Collinite caused me to order some to try this weekend before winter hits. This phenomenon also gave me pause to think back on my own love of the clean car.
Yes, grasshopper another tour of yesteryear when gas was 25cents, families actually took Sunday rides that usually ended at the ice cream stand where the alpha male had the banana split. At that time DETAIL was a noun and doing the car was called a “wax job� also synonymous with “Simonized�. The end result always shined but the joy was a reflection of enormous time spent and muscles that ached for days. Of course in those days cars had acres of surface as well.
In my pre-license days my Dad had a 56 Buick 2 Dr. hardtop, the peach/white top model, that got redone as a result of Pennsylvania winter salt. Who knows how many pounds of bondo were in that job. Anyway the body shop guy advised a curing time of weeks after which the paint looked pretty cooked and filthy�but was rubbed out with chrome cleaner�I wonder if that was considered fine, med or heavy cut.
Anyway the 57 got replaced with a 60â€â€�deep red; now with a license I spent much time making this baby shine. About this time you started to see soft or crème waxes, obviously for wimps. The only liquid was Liquid Glassâ€â€�the buzz on this was –never use it because your car can never be repainted. Seeing a friend’s really turned out car, I came across my first WOW – Blue Coral. I think it was sort of the Zaino of its day.
