The next Acura TL A Spec... Drool Drool Drool

I'll go against the grain and state that I love red leather!

How much would a car like this cost.

It looks like a great concept. The Nissan Quest leather is cool, as well as the whole interior in general. My only complaint is how the bodykit emphasizes the long front and rear overhangs. And I agree, it should get AWD... 300 horsepower through the front wheels is too much for any serious performance car. I was reading C/D and they were complaining about the stock model's torque steer.

Well, the last A Spec TL was about $7000 over the original cost of the car. This one is a concept and the dimensions and extras are quite a bit different. Its more than just bolt ons and bodykits. I would look at the pricing on the TL Type S and then add a few grand to it. That's probably going to be close.

Very nice.

But I still think Acura should have made it RWD.

And to increase the horsepower even more, to 300?? The Car & Driver guys and others have already stated that the normal 270hp seemed to be too much for its FWD w/ LSD setup to handle.

I love the styling, but think that front fascia just BEGS for rock chips (I dunno, something about the shape, so much frontal vertical surface area).

And I'd pass on the RED interior.

I'll take mine in silver with a black leather interior....and let me know when Comtech has headers and a cold air intake for it!

I love talking cars :D I have always liked the Acura division of Honda (I have owned 2) and think they offer a great value for what you get. As of late, Acura seems to be going through a transformation to try and differentiate it further from the normal Honda line, with more emphasis on sport. I think their recent offerings have been great and would gladly own about any of them. This concept seems to be along those same lines. However, I think a RWD configuration would be better suited for the probable targeted driving segment and the natural competition (IS300, 300 series BMW’s, various MB products). I am also curious with torque numbers and where the power comes on in relation to the engine revs. As for styling….styling is subjective to each individuals taste and with that in mind my thoughts are:

Interior: I really like the interior and its lay out. I also like tasteful (and not over done) use of aluminum like accents (pedals, dials, and some trim) to break up look. However, the wood on steering wheel, center consol and doors seems out of place for this vehicle. Carbon fiber inserts would seem more appropriate given the sporting nature of the car. The color I am not completely sold on. It is striking and looks great and I would like to have a car that makes such a statement, but I am afraid it would grow fatiguing after awhile and look dated quickly (although there are some classic Ferrari’s with same color that look fantastic to this day).

Front: What is up with that front end? Did the fired Chrysler execs get hired by Honda? Get rid of that god awful, stratus/300LM looking grill and overall front end. It makes the car look way to narrow and tall.

Side: The side profile is generally alright but still a little over the top and not “clean enough looking for my taste. The wheel well arches look like after thoughts and too much of an attempt to make the car look muscular. I like bulging wheel wells but they need to be more incorporated in to the shape and flow of the car. The indention that runs along the door handles give the appearance of too high of “waistline for a sports sedan. I know it is a concept car so maybe it would be toned down and smoothed out with the actual production. Detailing note: That indention and side skirt creases would be a pain in the a$$.

Rear: Suffers from the front end problem of looking too narrow and too tall. The chrome accents are over done for my taste and distract from the look. I also don’t like the boy-racer looking tail lights with the chrome. In addition, the rear bumper appears to have to many changes in direction and becomes distracting (could be lighting) or maybe it is just the big chrome looking piece that is inserted. I think a little smoothing and toning down would go a long way. I really like the hang-over spoiler/lip on the top of the trunk.

I would like to see it in person to get a real feel for it and its actual proportions, because the pictures make the car appear to tall and narrow and out of proportion for my taste. I like a more hunkered down, aggressive look, without the overt attempts to make the car look muscular. I think the previous generation 5 series, is the best example of this. With the right wheels the previous 5 series just looked aggressive and muscular without being over the top. That being said I think with a little real world tweeking this could be a real winner for Acura.

Change the front end styling, put on maybe 18's" and make the tailpipes black along with that chrome strip between the tailpipes and it would be perfect.

Oh, not a fan of red interiors either....

I am actually a big fan of the TL 6 speed with the Brembos. Don't really like the all glass roof, as I think it would be too impractical. I concur with most others that the red interior is too much.

AWD with 300HP would be great, if they can put more practical sized rims from the factory (like 17's from the base model, or 18's). 19's or bigger or pretty much useless in city streets. You couldn't drive it at all except for on a racetrack in those sizes, without bending a rim.
