The New DC - Moving Forward

Troy@Protekt

a.k.a. Troy@DetailCity
As you guys have seen, over the last month Detail City has underwent some changes. Some that you can see such as the new logo, design and fixing the photo gallery and some behind the scenes such as updating the forum software and moving over to a better server.

All of this is in an effort to breathe new life into Detail City and so far the results have been quite positive. New member sign ups are up and traffic is also on a steady increase. This is exactly what I was hoping for and now that brings me to the next phase of making Detail City a stronger forum.

With family, detailing and day to day life, Detail City requires more attention than I am able to give it in order to grow. Some ideas have been given to me by a few members about forming a committee of industry leaders, something similar to the International Detailing Association. There is also the possibility of Detail City joining and first and foremost, forming our own team of people that are successful in the detailing world. This makes sense that successful people could bring the "Midas touch" to Detail City as well.

My idea is to first reach out to longtime supporter of Detail City Steve from Poorboy's World for his input and participation. We are looking into bringing in some more sponsors/supporters to offer their point of view as well. In fact, I have a few manufacturers lined up to start supporting and sponsoring DC. Just looking for more more ideas and personnel to maintain and grow the forum. Hopefully, with Steve's help I will be able to assemble an team to lead Detail City in a way that this site and all of the members deserve.

Years back when I first got started with the forum I didn't have to worry about all of the tech stuff because I had Dwayne and now it's time to bring in some help.

I know a few of you are already supporters of this idea and I welcome everyone's input.

What do you think?

Sounds great. While I am not a successful detailing guru, I'd be glad to help in any way possible. :bigups for making (and keeping) the site growing and getting better.

Troy it is understood that to make Detail City grow and move in a new direction, change is needed. Dwayne started this site in 2002 and a few months later brought me on board to help broaden the scope and build DC into a world known site. We have built a community built on trust and respect and even though the small town atmosphere has worked for many of us over the years, the time has come to reach out to the expanding world of enthusiasts, and it will need the cooperation of current members and sponsors. Yes, Troy as I know you personally now for a few years, I know that the burden of growing DC has been very hard for you to juggle with your day job and family responsibilities. Autogeek and I will be here to help support and grow the dream you and Dwayne had and hopefully build DC into the biggest and best detailing site in the world :dcrules

Did you mention the C word??? C-H-A-N-G-E (spelling it w/o saying it outloud -- just too scary for us old folks :D) Change for improvement -- GOOD! Change for the sake of change -- Not so good. Based on my impressions of Troy's demonstrated modus operandi, my money's on the former.

As far as moderator crew, I would put DC's current staff gainst any.

JP, you are far too modest. :bigups I consider you to be one of the top contributors. Fair and balanced when it comes to product reviews, and always available with well thought out advice. I don't know what kind of group Troy would be putting together, but I'm sure you would be an able contributor.

Good luck to us all as we navigate the waters of change, hopefully it will be a smooth sailing! All hands on deck and all that :bigups

Troy I think everyone can appreciate all the work it takes to successfully run a forum, it takes a small village not just one guy! So I am sure everyone is here for you, just let us know whatever you need.

I had lots of ideas floating around between my ears. I just didn't have the time or resources to make any of them happen. This one wasn't all mine but I'm running with it and it should be good for Detail City as well as the detailing community.

Having multiple people involved in building up DC is smart and I wish I had done it sooner.

:dcrules

Detail City wasn't created by one person and it can't be sustained by one person either. I think it is a great idea to get the creative input from others who have helped make this site what it is. Whether you are able to find them from within or bring them in from outside as sponsors, I absolutely think you are on the right track to keeping Detail City one of the premiere open forums for detailing discussion that exists on the internet today.

Troy, the changes you have made look great! What an awesome job! While I have no advise for you I do offer my thanks and encouragement.
