The Longest Carpet Extraction Ever

Weight is the enemy.
I just got done with a full 8 hours of detailing on the Taurus. I will admit that it has been a bit neglected, I have paid most attention to my dad's car and customers. I did the interior using the oxy method and it worked like a dream. The problem came when I was rinsing the carpets to get the last of the solution out. I used my Little Green with clear water from the hose. I would spray it on the carpet and then extract. I repeated this about 10 times on one square foot of carpeting and the water was still dark brown. Fast forward to three and a half hours later, I had refilled the tank at least thirty times, used about 40 gallons of water, the carpet was finally clean. Has this happened to anyone?

It's this kind of experinence that justifies a $1000 extractor.

Hey Tuba, this is where a major extactor really comes into play. I use the Lil' Green for my more upscale clients that are well maintained. When it comes to a situation like what faced you, the LGM just doesn't cut it. It helps, but not wonderful by anymeans. You need lots more extraction power and more heat doesn't hurt either.

The good thing is I won't let it get that bad again. I would get a real deal extractor, but I don't have the money right now. Maybe if I get a lot of good jobs this season I will look into it. I am very happy that I got it done, it was a good day overall, I will be polishing and sealing today (the finish has just a few (many) swirls).

tubafreak: Can we expect any amazing pics :)?

Those are the jobs I wish I could just hose down the interior, soak with degreaser, then shopvac it all up.

GSR: Unfortunately my digicam is not working. I will try to get some soon, but I don't have any before shots so the impact is really lost. As to the hosing and degreaser, I actually used Simple Green 1:1 as my spot remover. The problem was that the entire carpet was a spot so I ended up using about 1/2 gallon of the stuff. It all eventually came out, my shop vac sucks (not in the good sense) so the Little Green was the best tool for the job. If I ever do this again I would seriously consider taking the hose and having at the carpet, it would have saved me a lot of time.

I'm seriously considering buying an extra Little Green Dirty tank and modifying it so I don't have to empty it every two minutes (not exagerating).

Kind of an old thread, but a little trick I picked up today was to put the LGCM outside of the car and just pull the dirty tank out. Mine seems to fill that a lot faster than it empties the clean tank. It'll make a mess all over the tar, but it saves a ton of time over constantly emptying then tank.
