The Essientials?

Depends on what you are looking to accomplish.
The basics
Soap with good lubricity
2 buckets
wash mitts
a number of good micro fiber towels
clay
paint cleaner
your favorite LSP
APC
vacuum
wheel and interior dressing.

As you go further you'll be looking for polishes and tools to do paint correction.

The important thing is to get the process down and then start to fill your arsenal with the items that fit it.

That's the best advice anyone could give a new person. :yourrock

I would spare you the frustration and enormous expense of filling your arsenal first and then learning the process.
