I've always wondered this myself. Hopefully, the guys from Edge can chime in on this one.artman4life said:i bout the j-hooked pads and i absolutely love em, and yes, i have yet to leave a swirl with the blue pad with my makita rotary. the white pad i think is even great, i like to go the next level of softnessbut i've been lookin at the 2000 series lately and although i have yet to hear any bad reviews from them, how much protection are u getting between the pad and center lockin area when the pad is on the surface of the vehicle??? i have not seen any of the 2000 series pads in person, but is there any way of the center locking able to touch the paint surface at all?? how exactly does it keep from touchin the surface??
Exactly!holland_patrick said:I have tryed but the plastic covers the metal part and you can't compress the foam enough to get the plastic to touch...
The Edge said:Hi Guys,
Your questions and concerns are very common. We spend 2 years in testing to insure that the adapter could never come through the plate and touch the paint. The adapter has a shoulder that when snapped in prevents the adatper from ever going further than it is made to go. In fact the "snap" sound is the shoulder hitting the back of the plate. When locked in the metal is always below the plastic. That is to say whichever side you snap the adapter in the plastic on the opposite side is taller than the adapter stands and the plastic is always covered with buffing materials, either foam or wool. We have found that the only way to ever hit the adatper is to run it directly over a windshield washer port on a hood and press down hard. Of course I don't know anyone who runs the machine directly over those little nubs on the hood because you would damage the paint on that small peice with just the pad even before you got to the adatper. Alot of thought and engineering went into the Edge2000 system for safety and efficiency. Its a pretty fool proof system now and with the upgraded adapter its even smoother than velcro!
Thanks for your questions!

That's exactly what happens. The pad doesn't actually come off, but it fits loosely on the adapter. I guess I could have clarified that, doh. And you're right about getting about 15 details per pad, I've got more use on my wool pads than the foam, but there's about 10 on both the blue foam and green wool pads and they're finally starting to show some wear. The Edge said:Some enlargement of the hex is actually normal but it should never become so large that the pad comes off the adapter.
Well the Cutting Creme isn't color matched to the black pad, only the label is :bubbaThe Edge said:Thanks for the clarification. Yes we do have a deal with Presta for the body shop markets. They are our marketing arm for that industry. They have the perfect system with their body shop specific chemcial line which is matched in texture and color to our edge pads in both wool and foam.
