The Edge system???

Is the edge system (the quick disconnect and 2 different pads in 1) worth the practically $50, or should i just buy a light cutting pad and a finishing pat with the j-hook backing plate? Ps this is for a rotary buffer with j-hook backing plate

I have the whole series, but I think the average person with different polishes (abrasive to light) can do with a yellow medium cut pad, or probably the green pad for cutting, and the blue pad for finishing.

YES IT IS..

:hail :hail

I have been using The Edge DA pads for over a year now and wouldnt go back to using other pads. They are so easy and quickly changed over, last well and are colour coded so they can be recognised easily...Great pads which give great results..

The Edge2000 is what I would call a must have. Also, consider that in that price you are getting a total of 4 pads, as these pads are double sided. With the Edge2000 system for the rotary, there is no guess work in centering the pads nor is there any chance that the pad will come off the backing. The durafoam that the Edge pads use is my absolute favorite. Not to mention that fact that the customer support from the company is second to none. It is the safest and best quality pad that I have used and is well worth the $50 and the 2 side pad ables you to use it in tight areas that you would not be able to do with a backing plate on..

For a PC I don't think the centering of the pad is as important as it is for a rotary, so when I decide which rotary I am going to get, I will get the Edge system.

I just ordered the kit this past week. On sale at Autogeek and they took an additional 10% off for being a DC member :rockon . Will arrive Tues. and I can't wait.

The Edge system kicks ass. When I bought my Presta kit it came with the Blue, Green, and Black cutting pads along with the adapter. With any mild polish the blue pad will leave ZERO swirl marks (I have yet to leave a swirl with this pad). I paid $60 for my set of foam pads and the quik adapter, plus an additional $16 for the yel pad, so I'd say it's worth $50

i bout the j-hooked pads and i absolutely love em, and yes, i have yet to leave a swirl with the blue pad with my makita rotary. the white pad i think is even great, i like to go the next level of softness :) but i've been lookin at the 2000 series lately and although i have yet to hear any bad reviews from them, how much protection are u getting between the pad and center lockin area when the pad is on the surface of the vehicle??? i have not seen any of the 2000 series pads in person, but is there any way of the center locking able to touch the paint surface at all?? how exactly does it keep from touchin the surface??

I've always wondered this myself. Hopefully, the guys from Edge can chime in on this one.

Hi Guys,
Your questions and concerns are very common. We spend 2 years in testing to insure that the adapter could never come through the plate and touch the paint. The adapter has a shoulder that when snapped in prevents the adatper from ever going further than it is made to go. In fact the "snap" sound is the shoulder hitting the back of the plate. When locked in the metal is always below the plastic. That is to say whichever side you snap the adapter in the plastic on the opposite side is taller than the adapter stands and the plastic is always covered with buffing materials, either foam or wool. We have found that the only way to ever hit the adatper is to run it directly over a windshield washer port on a hood and press down hard. Of course I don't know anyone who runs the machine directly over those little nubs on the hood because you would damage the paint on that small peice with just the pad even before you got to the adatper. Alot of thought and engineering went into the Edge2000 system for safety and efficiency. Its a pretty fool proof system now and with the upgraded adapter its even smoother than velcro!

Thanks for your questions!

Great info, Aaron! Just wondering though, have you noticed that after using a pad for an extended period of time, the hex shape of the hole starts to round off making it difficult to keep the pad on. I've never noticed it on my pads at home, but at work I've seen this happen to a couple. Is it just something that happens with age?

the hex in the plastic should outlast the pad. The pad should get you at least 15 full details each side. After that the pad is considered worn out and as such the plastic center will not last forever. When you say extended use how much buffing are we talking about. Also if the adapter is damaged in that the corners of the hex on the adapter were rounded by a tool being used on it or it was dropped that will cause premature wear on the plastic hex of every pad you use. Some enlargement of the hex is actually normal but it should never become so large that the pad comes off the adapter.

That's exactly what happens. The pad doesn't actually come off, but it fits loosely on the adapter. I guess I could have clarified that, doh. And you're right about getting about 15 details per pad, I've got more use on my wool pads than the foam, but there's about 10 on both the blue foam and green wool pads and they're finally starting to show some wear.

Just wondering, did you strike a deal with Presta so they use solely your system with their products? That's how I first got ahold of Edge pads, when I bought my Presta kit at P&S. Your pads win conjunction with their products makes a simple, easy to use system that provides great results :rockon

Thanks for the clarification. Yes we do have a deal with Presta for the body shop markets. They are our marketing arm for that industry. They have the perfect system with their body shop specific chemcial line which is matched in texture and color to our edge pads in both wool and foam.

Well the Cutting Creme isn't color matched to the black pad, only the label is :bubba
With their Swirl Remover and the blue pad it's virtually impossible to leave a swirl behind, it's great stuff. I'm really a fan of the 1500 polish too, but the cutting creme "rides the pine" so to speak, I've never been too partial to it. Overall, it's a great system, especially for those who are new to rotaries! I have to save your pads and their system really improved my skill level, and I improved fast too :)

Ok, I gotta ask...I'm in need of some more compound, I think I'm going to try the CC Light. Is it yellow in color? :D
