The Cost Of Carxxxx

I've been using Megs and Mothers waxes for my personal vehicle and I though I would try some of the better carxxxxs that have been suggested here at DC. I was surprised to see that the prices vary from $15-$70. Do the higher cost products provide any noticeable benifit to the "average joe" hand wax job? Do they provide better or longer protection or a finish that the average person would see a difference in? $70 for a tub of wax seems pretty steep to me, am I missing something?

And why do the x's get added to carxxxx?

I believe that each wax has its own little characteristics that make it unique. I dont however belive that you should have to pay 70 bucks for souveran. I dont think you will be able to tell the difference from that and say nattys. Remember prep is key to a good shine. It all the claying and polishing that give it that great look. here are some affrodable waxes:

Nattys: 15ish
S100: 15ish
P21S: 30ish about the same as s100 (probably not worth the extra 15
TS: 30ish my favorite wax. Same say it is alot like souveran.

There are many more affordable waxes like nxt and so on.

in some cases duranilty might be a factor and products like zaino or klasse arent locally available. then at time u might wanna swing for some souveran, which without a doubt, never made me regret those 70 bucks. then theres poorboys products which in my opinion are way up there when it comes to quality.

each wax/selant (polishes too, even tho we're not talkign about polishes) have their own characteristics. some are easier to use, last longer, greater shine. every shine is different and im sure no-1 here can say product A and product B look exactly the same. its just the search for that perfect shine we all look for that has us ordering more and more products, not caring about the price.

im sure every single one of us can easily use store bought products and get great results without need to order the more high end premium products. but whats the fun in that?

Waxes and seaalnts are nice and give you that added touch - the icing on the cake. However, if you don't take the time to do the proper prep work, you'd be wasting your money IMO to buy a high priced boutique wax. There's no point in it. It would be like not taking a shower for a few weeks, and then just putting on cologne to go out for a night on the town. The fact that you will pay $15-$70 for a wax does not guarantee a good looking vehicle - you have to do the polishing/cleaning steps needed before putting on the finishing touch.

The X's are showing up because something triggered the "language filter"-it thought you said a naughty word. What word? :dunno
If you spelled it correctly -carnauba- it would be fine. When you drop the "a" and spell it "c-a-r-n-u-b-a" it gets censored. carxxxx

I agree with jaredpointer's comments: the entire detailing process is 80% surface prep & 20% product.

If the surface is prep'd properly, the most expensive wax will look OK but prep the surface properly & even inexpensive OTC wax prodcuts will dazzle you.

You want to see expensive??? Take a look at some of the zymol products that cost over $1000.00 ..... gee, $70 for Souveran doesn't look so bad, does it?

If you're looking for a great looking carnauba that'll last more than 4 weeks under most conditions, take a look at the Collinite product line.
