This trick is legit right guys?



(Where I can test a mf out to see if it will scratch the back of disc?) and if it does, that means it should totally be avoided, as it will scratch my clear, correct? thanks!
 
solekeeper- While it's not perfect, it's a pretty good test. Some clears/disks are softer/harder than others but *IMO* that doesn't make the test worthless and stuff that mars CDs doesn't touch my paint.



"Test it the way you use it." Same pressure/etc. and if the stuff being tested is used wet (wash media come to mind) then test that way.
 
I have never found anything that DIDN'T mar a CD if you look in the right light. My best MF even do it. You have to really look at the right angle and right light. I no longer use the CD as a test since it would eliminate all of my tools.



Accumulator suggests "Test it the way you use it". I literally do that. I test it on a small section of the paint than examine the area. If it passes great, if not than the marring is very minor and only in a small area and easily fixed.



I have found some towels that marred CD's very easily and did not mar paint.
 
hm, thanks guys. I was just looking to find a good mf to do ipa wipedowns with. Didn't want to mar my paint after all the correction has beem done

There is good MF all over the place. Any of the online stores sell good MF. You can get good MF OTC now to. The Viking towels are top quality.

Yeah, that's a good time to be careful. Remember that the IPA offers minimal lubricity/encapsulation so anything "solid" that gets cleaned off might cause marring if you're not really careful.

I just use my regular plush MFs, which are mostly PakShak Ultra-plushes. In some ways I can imagine a WW working better, but the plush ones give me a sense of security regarding marring.



Note that, for the record, I'm not as fanatical about IPAing as many people, and when I *do* do such stuff I generally prefer TOL's PrepWash over IPA.

PrepWash proved *MUCH* better at stripping stuff, especially the oils that M205 leaves behind. I was IPAing over and over and over without 100% success. It's not quite as "clean" as IPA as IMO it really oughta be rinsed (as opposed to merely wiped), and for that reason I'd rathe just use IPA if they worked the same...but oh man does the PrepWash work better for me.
