That Darn Slippery Clay - Solution ;-)

Hi All,

Been reading the forum for a while and just spent a pile of $ on "stuff" based on what I have read here. Had never heard of "claying" the paint.

So, got the Pinnacle Clay Kit and worked on my Daughters car about 10 min before I dropped the first of 3 bars. Decided this was not good!

Like most who service their own vehicles I have disposable latex gloves to change the oil. Put on a pair and had complete control over the slippery clay bar for the rest of the job.

Just trying to give something back.

Interesting solution. I have those gloves which I use for changing oil, etc. Will give it a try.:up

CombatDog,

After you Dawn'd washed the car, did you dry the car off or did you leave it wet prior to lubrication and claying?

I also ordered the Pinnacle Clay Kit last week from CMA. I will be using the clay for the 1st time. How do you like it? Is it foolproof?

Thanks.

You want the clay to basically float on top of the paint. Put lubricant on the clay also.

Be liberal, burt have a towel ready to catch stray drips.

It's well worth it.

jmsc,

I dried it, but don't think that matters.

I was impressed with what the clay accomplished.

It was easy and foolproof, as long as you keep it lubed and off the ground.

After dropping the first bar, with the gloves I didn't drop another.

The car was a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, black with clearcoat that had been neglected. It did clean up real nice and I think the clay did it's job.

Good Luck,

Lou

The above pic is the after. Here is the before. Note the Silly String "rocket" that busted the windshield. This was on the 4th. The outside temp was 89 and we went out front to find this. A new can of Silly String was sitting on the front pass. seat and overheated. Blew the bottom off the can and launched it into the windshield ;-(

Where's a good place to buy these disposible latex gloves?

you can get them from most pharmacies (walmart, save-on, rite-aid, etc)since latex gloves are used in the medical field. you may be albe to find cheaper gloves or some less disposable diswashing gloves at supermarkets or auto stores.

Tell me that was just after a wash and fully claying the hood!!

If that's the case, then I can't WAIT until my order gets here!!!!!
