Test Run Engine Detail

I saw this on the properautocare site. Looks like a new product and is a huge towel for absorbing a lot of water. Anyone ever try it yet? If so, how do you like it?

I got mine early this week. It's huge!!!

I dried my whole car without wringing it out once! The thing is amazing. No lint... very plush. I usually use 3-4 MF towels to dry my car. Not any more.

I will do a full write up when I get more time.

Here are a before and after shot of my test run engine detail on my wife's VW Rabbit. The car is 4 years old and had zero engine treatment during that time. My previous experience with engine cleaning consisted of putting some water on and wiping stuff down, normally just moving the dirt from point a to point b.

Process this time was:

Adam's APC diluted 3:2 Water/APC
Scrub down w/ brush
Rinse with Water
Wipe excess
Run engine until warm to dry
Applied Dressing

For the next one I will use different brushes for the smaller areas, and I might switch both the engine degreaser and dressing. I was happy with their performance but I'm always up for something new.

Note that it started raining a bit during the after pictures so the little drops are rain, not left over product.

Night & Day

Stupid photobucket. Photos are giant, sorry about that.

They look fine to me. Great work and thanks for posting :money:

Looks very good!

If you have an electric leaf blower they come in handy(or compressed air) because you blow the majority of standing water prior to starting the motor.

94Canuck - That is one great job !! What a difference !
Keep up the great work, you are at the best Forum ever - these guys are also the best bunch of people you would ever want to be associated with.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the vehicle/s sometime, as you work through all the fun things that are auto detailing. :)

Yes, I like this one step at a time approach. Maybe your next thread could be the interior, or wheel cleaning

This way of breaking it down is good for us slow learners. Plus, it gives me something to look forward to :partaaay2:

I have a compressor... never thought about that. Would have made the job easier for getting water out of the little spots. One more tool for the next one, thanks.

Is it just me, or do I just never see pics of anyone applying alum foil or other protective covering to the electronics? Do people not to that anymore?

I might cover the battery, but usually I'll just avoid spraying water at it directly. Modern electrical connections are meant to be weather resistant, so as long as you're not blasting away with a pressure washer you should be fine.

Now on older cars, or pretty much anything with a carb, I won't even rinse the engine bay. I only do those with a brush, some cloths, and bottles of cleaners.

I cover the alternator and stuff a rag in the air intake - everything else is sealed up pretty well - never had a problem.

Gary
