Teaser pic: horrific Trans Am

I will be spending the next week or two on this car. Thought I'd put up a teaser pic for now ;) Have to say i'm frustrated with the camera, the pictures HARDLY show how bad this paint is, I mean the pictures really do no justice to how bad it is.

This is after 2 compounding steps with M105 and yellow SOLO Wool pad on the Makita rotary. It removed most of the deep scratches, but there is still a lot left. I will be wetsanding this part, and likely most of the car as well.

*added wetsanding pics at bottom*

After wetsanding and compounding. No polishing yet!

Also, if you have some Hi Temp Extreme Cut, try that on the sanding marks. It's more gritty and cut through wet sand marks alot easier for me. Its been that way on more than one occasion.

Wow that's nutty, and GM clear is usually above average hard too. Good luck man, she's gonna look slick though with that NBM all cleaned up.

Added post-wetsanding pics above.

Got a link to where I can get that? There are two spots left that I can't seem to get the sanding marks out. They aren't bad, just barely there, but I see them. I dunno, maybe i use a little too much pressure on those spots.

I haven't been able to do much on the car since it was dropped off 2 months ago *eek*. But client doesn't mind lol. I did decide to wetsand the entire car.

Wetsanding is done!! After 55 hours of wetsanding, here is what she looks like right now.

And a few side by side shots, so you can see kinda what it will look like when finished, just keep in mind though the car is very dusty at the moment.

55 hours to wetsand? hmmmmmmm thats a lot. what was your sanding process?

There was a lot of repainting on this car and it was pretty bad.

Started with 1500 then 2000 then 2500 grit.

oh and it was by hand too, not using sanding disks. Though I do want them now.

Is it really that long? I've heard 30-50 hrs is the norm and some people exceed 100 hrs.

How is there any clearcoat left after 55 hours of wetsanding?

Good question....although I must say I'm anxious to see the finished product. That TransAm was a flippin' train wreck before. I can't say I've ever seen something that bad before. :shocked

Most of this car has been repainted. Also, even though it was a lot of hours I've seen many other cars taken much further with over 100 hours of wetsanding. The clear is holding up just fine and finishing very nicely. Front end has been compounded and polished. Just needs to be jeweled. Rest of the car still needs compounding which I will try to finish next week.
