Tar Paper Removal

Weight is the enemy.
I have a 1989 CRX with a stripped interior. I think I am going to keep it that way because it is much cheaper and it makes my car look like a race car (it will be a race car once I get to college). Right now I have all of the carpet off and the floor is covered in thick, black ugliness. Has anyone had any experience with this type of material or could help me with some ideas on how to remove it? I have heard that freezing it with dry ice and hitting it with a hammer works, but I think I'd go through the floor. I have an impact hammer that might work, but I'd like to hear some ideas from you guys before I go at my Honda with sharp things. Scratches are not really a problem as the car will be repainted on the inside once I have done more important things to it, like repaired the rust. Thanks for any help or suggestions you can give.

the dry ice method works well, also try aircraft remover and a paint scraper (do this when it is warm outside) or a hair dryer/heat gun and a paint scraper. Check out honda-tech.com or honda-acura.net and run a search

The dry ice does work well - if hitting with a hammer bothers you, use a scraper. Freeze it, then start scraping and it'll generally crack off. Careful with the dry ice though - it can freeze-burn your skin in a flash.

Where would I get aircraft stripper? I need some to strip off some rust and bondo but I can't find it at any of my usual stores.
