Yep, definetly a better camera. He is using a 5mp, 3x optical zoom with no manual controlls etc. POS. And ya hes only 21. I think I'm going to team up with my parents and buy him a really good digital camera for Xmas, hes in college full time and doesnt' have a job, so doesn't have money to save up for a good camera. I still love his pictures though, but then again, maybe its just because he's my brother.

Well now that you bring it up, I'll probably just give him cash and tell him its for a camera. My parents would probably give a couple of hundred too. My brother just got a job at Best Buy and he can get stuff for 5% over cost, so a quality camera wont be too much. I decided I want a camera with at least 7mp, 5x optical zoom and full manual controls and a non XD memory card, but my brother wants one way better, not shure what though.
 
What I've found is that megapixels isn't everything. I have a 4MP camera and at the camera forum I frequent, (S5000.net) there are quite a few people who can take better pics with the same camera I have than some of the 6, 7, and 9 mp models. More megapixels means less pixelation with bigger prints. If you're not making big prints a 9 mp camera isn't going to have much advantage over a 5mp or 4mp. Full Manual controls, quality of lens, aperature range, histogram, lens accessories, and possibly even RAW format are more important things to consider. Then learning how to manipulate them of course. A 12 MP camera isn't going to automatically make you a good photographer. If you take a look at Dpreview.com and compare pics between quality 3mp - 9mp cams, you'll be hard pressed to see any difference. Good luck picking one out. Sorry so long... :grinno:

Ya, but wouldn't 7mp be clearer than a 4mp with the same size picture, no matter how big or small. I am not saying I know anything about digital cameras, that is what my brother is for. lol I know how to detail. lol And I know that having a great camera isnt going to make me take amazing pics, but it will make my brothers great pics look much better as well as broaden his abilities, by the manual focus and more optical zoom.

No not necessarily. Don't get me wrong, I am not a seasoned photographer. This is my first digital camera and I am completely new to photography myself. However, I did tons of research on countless websites, read reveiws on a plethora of cameras, I even went and read sections of digital and general photography books at Barnes and Noble. Below are a few articles you can check out and there are tons more supporting the same info. It kind of gives you an idea of what comes into play in making a quality picture aside from megapixels. I actually eliminated some 7mp cameras in my search by reviews that placed their picture quality lower than that of some 4 and 5mp cameras because I didn't need large prints. But like I said, the bigger the prints the more mps you need. On a large print, 7mp is less pixelated than a 4 or 5mp...
