tailgate mural, special precautions?

I was thinking of having a tailgate mural painted on my F150 and it dawned on me that there may be some special precautions when using a polish/SMR, or any abrasive on special paintwork (i.e. flames, murals, etc.).

Now that I think about it, perhaps even taped on graphics would need some special care.



Anyone have suggestions, info?

if you have a mural painted on the tailgate, the artist will have to strip all the wax/polish/everything off the tailgate. Have the artist clearcoat over top of his handbrushed/airbrushed mural when he is finished. Then you just treat it like the rest of your clearcoated paint. No problems!

If he had done automotive painting before, probably. Most artists know paints.



Natty, the graphics should have a clear over them so they are no different than the rest of your paint. You'll only have to worry if you break through that clear. You'll then start to eat away at your artwork.

Thanks folks for the replies. One last ?......should I request multiple coats of clear? If so, how many coats?
