Swirls in glass

i noticed that other day that I have some swirls that are in my windshield. Does anyone think it is possible to take them out without using a special glass polish/compound? I was thinking along the lines of a 6inch or 4 inch cutting pad using a PC with either AIO or Autoglym glass polish. what do you think? SHould I try optimum compound or SSR 2.5/3?

Thanks

I hate to sound pessimistic, but I don't see it working. I've never been able to correct marring on glass, even with the rotary. You might check out some place like Eastwood and look into their polishing systems (special pad and abrasives, for rotaries IIRC) but I wouldn't expect much improvement.

Glass is hard. When it gets scratched it tends to stay scratched. All I've ever been happy with is replacement.

I have tried all sorts of polishes from glass polish to the Poorboys lineup and nothing helped! Its extremely irratating as I have tons of swirls in my windshield.

It is frustrating for me because I dunno how they got there. I see 1o or so fine "halo" swirls that go side to side on my windshield. I was goting to try some autoglym glass polish with on a cutting pad to see what I can do. Should I go to a glass repair place to see if they could buff it out? You can only see the swirls in direct sunlight, so they are very fine...

IMO most such marring comes from stuff getting dragged across the glass by the wipers. I just replace windshields from time to time. Between pitting and the scratches I always appreciate the new ones.

A rotary, up to 1700-1800 RPMs, IIRC last time I did it, a polishing pad and Valugard Cerious Compound ( you might be able to substitute a glass specific compound, :nixweiss ) fairly improved a windshield I worked on. If lucky, it may help it look a little better but yes, glass does tend to stay scratched, at least to the point where an Autopian may still be unhappy.

I had a horribly pitted windshield that I just got used to. It looked fine to me. Then some big rock truck tossed a boulder at me and put a giant chip in my glass. It turned out to be a good thing. I paid $100 deductible on $360 glass and the difference was amazing. That was Safelite glass. I think OEM glass is typically $500 or so.
