Swirl or light scratch remover using foam pads.

Newbie to the site and I do apologize if this question has been brought up. Still learning how to navigate this site. Question... What product (s) have given you the the best overall results along with easy removal? What foam pad is your preference? Thanks. Dan

Common clear coat swirls and scratches left by most using poor wash habits and using inferior cotton towels to dry or using drive through car washes. Just looking for a product that produces a good result overall with fairly easy cleanup.

As noted, a lot depends on the vehicle in question- hard/soft paint, etc. and which polisher you're using.

GENERALLY, these days I usually recommend the Meguiar's M105/M205 twins. Even "light marring" can require M105, at least if you're not using a rotary; I had some *VERY* light marring on the hood of my Yukon and much to my surprise I had to resort to M105 to get it out.

Pads- if you're using a PC/etc. I'd stick with small sizes. I prefer 4" pads for correction, but others claim to do OK with 5.5". I'd lean towards the LC Hydrotech pads.

If the car's been run through a commercial carwash, I wouldn't be surprised if you have to do some fairly serious work, assuming you want to really correct the marring (not saying that's always the best idea).

#9 will not do anything.

Are you using a polisher?

Help us to help you. Be detailed.

FYI, it is NOT that easy to remove imperfections. Again what kind of car is this for? Are you changing your washing habits? Will it go back to an automated car wash again?

Using a PC 7424. I use a wide range of LC pads...Daily driver type cars. Not for a specific car, but for a common problem for most consumers due to poor washing and drying habits. Not trying to be a miracle maker, but if there are swirls or light scratches present a product that works well for general clearcoat paints.

Well, don't bother with M09, if you want to go old-school Meguiar's you'd be much better off with M80.

For "general use" I'd still go with the M105/M205 twins, but I bet Menzerna has something that'd be at least as good a choice, maybe even better.

Id go with menzerna uper intensive polish. great as a 1 step for light marring, and finishes down lsp ready. very user friendly, long work times,

HD UNO WILL WORK AS A COMPOUND, OR AS A FINISHING POLISH. The look is unmatched in my opinion.

Gee....lots of new-tech stuff on the market these days! icunjl- post back about how the Uno works for you if you get a chance.

I suppose I'm sort of old school - Rotary with foam pads and Meg's 83 , 80, etc gave us great results over the years. Until...

We recently acquired the Porter Cable 7424XP Dual Action machine. Paired with Meg's 105/205 and Polishing/Finishing pads affords truly amazing results. The combination is a game changer. We've now done about 20 paint corrections with the new 'system', and I continue to be amazed. Really. Amazed.

We have a lovely 23 yo female employee who shines on interiors, but has yet to learn buffing skills (perhaps because I've been too busy to take the time). With 10 minutes of instruction, she was able to completely buff a Black BMW 640 coupe to my satisfaction. Unheard of.

The process does require an operator with patience and a good eye, but fears of burning paint, etc are a thing of the past.

Highly recommended. Be sure to get the 6" backing plate and 6" counter weight...Coastaltool.com is a trusted source.

Jimmy Buffit- Glad to hear the XP is working out so well for you. And props for coming right out and admitting your amazement at how well it works! Coming from a previously rotary-centric guy like you that says a lot.

You like the 6" plate and pads sized to go with it instead of something smaller?

Optimum Hyper Polish Spray, in a heartbeat...........5.5" pads. Orange and white being my favorite with that product......

I haven't used UNO, nor Hyper polish, but hyper polish sounds like an UNO type product. Heavy cutting abilities with the correct pad, and excellent finishing abilities with another. I look forward to trying Hyperpolish in the future.

I will highly recommend that you use a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads. 6 or 6.5" pads will be far inferior to smaller pads/backing plates' correcting abilities on a 7424.

I'd like to try UNO. Would this even compare to a product like say.... swirlx? More cut than 205, but less than 105. Meguiars claims very long working times with this product as well.

You are trying to compare a suzuki swift to a porsche turbo. :D

UNO cuts as well as 105, looks better, but it outshines 85rd in my book. Just use the appropriate pads to get the finish you are after.

Truly an amazing product.
