swirl marks

Maybe somebody can help me out. I have allot of clients with black cars that have had their cars buffed and now have horrible swirl marks.
How do I get their cars looking new again????

Buffing! The problem with the buffing marks isn't the buffer, but the user! He/She probably used a rotory with a wool pad and some compound. In order to remove them u need to remove the swirls by either a DA or Rotory (what caused the damage). I suggest you practice before the rotory though. Get a hold of a DA. Much safer, Not as quick but definately much safer.

do a search for PC, there is tons of info already on the board. Can you tell us what products and machines you have?

Greg

best thing we can tell you is search!! this topic is all over this board with tons of opinions  welcome ,enjoy the read.

Ya its a couple of tampa bay lightning players and im worried i would make it worse. but ill do some research.
thanks guys

If you don't know how to remove swirls then chances are that you will make it worse until you learn how to do it. You can't do it by hand, so go get yourself a Porter Cable 7424 or learn how to use a rotary. Either way, I don't think you'll be doing any swirl removal this weekend. The PC is very easy to learn, but a rotary takes some practice. Either tool will remove swirls. Don't buy a machine at WalMart and expect it to remove any swirls though. Swirl removal starts with the PC and goes from there. Anything below a PC is probably the cause of the damage you are looking at fixing.

Just out of curiosity... where do you get 'alot of clients' without knowing how to do swirl removal? How long have you been detailing professionaly and what have you typically been offering?

I have been detailing for about a year. I am usually buisy everyday of the week unless there is rain. I charge for a wash 25 on a car and 35 for an suv, truck, van. my full details go up to 85 max. I just havnt offered buffing yet until I learn how to do it the right way.

Are your Full Details simply a wash and wax and interior cleaning? Typically that term refers to additional services like paint cleaning, IFO removal, and swirl removal. If you have customers that have been shopping around or using other detailers (as it sounds like they do) then they may have certian expectations when you use terms like this.

There isn't anything wrong with undercutting everybody to this degree. However, if you want to get serious about detailing then you have come to the right place. The first thing you need to get is a PC. Then you need to start getting practice on how to use it for swirl removal, paint cleaning, and waxing. You will save a ton of time and I'll bet it won't be long before you realize you are charging half of what you should be charging. You are in a good area to get good detailing supplies. Premium Auto Care and Autogeek are in your neck of the woods. Definitely do some research and you'll realize that there is a lot more you could be doing to really make some money at this business.

Is this your full time job or just a side deal?

This is what i am hoping for within the next couple months. I am going to start practicing asap.
Thanks for the help and advice
