hi guys

been reading these threads for a couple weeks now and decided it was time i joined and asked a few questions to the pros out there. I have waxed my cars in the past using the stuff you can buy from the big box stores etc and just never really got into it or ever owned anything that i was interested in trying to up keep. Now that I have a couple extra bucks to spend and want to try and maintain my new truck i need some advice.

My plan is below; let me know where i am lacking or what advice you can give me. i want a good pop with the white diamond tricoat paint but also want some durability. How long can i go in b/t waxes? 1-3 months? i cant spend too much time so i want something that will last a few months.

1.wash with megs gold
2. clay w/ pinnacle premium fine - are all fine clays pretty similiar or should you stick with the brand of the sealant or wax you are going to use?
3. apply 4Star UPP - do i need to use pre wax cleaner on a new car?
4. top with collinite 845
5.optimum spray wax in b/t wash/waxes

so if that is a good plan what pad/speed do i apply the sealant and wax on? using a PC7424. sorry in advance if these are dumb questions

thanks for the advice!

Your plan sounds good. You could skip the cleaner wax IMO

How often do you plan on getting out there and waxing your truck?

Welcome!

1. Since you're going to add a sealant, you would want to use a soap that has detergents that will be able to trip away any previous sealant/wax. Even using water and Dawn dishsoap would do the job. Always good to start fresh

2. There are different grades of clay that determine how aggressive it is. It doesn't have to be the same brand of your sealant

3. Do you plan on doing any paint correction? If not, it would be best to apply a paint cleaner just to ensure the sealant will bond properly onto your paint. You always want to make sure paint is prepped properly before any LSP. When you add your sealant, I would do multiple coats, probably 2-3 coats for more durability. Wait maybe 1 hour between coats

4. For best results, you have to let the sealant "cure" before applying a wax. Depending on the sealant, that can be anywhere from 8-24 hours. Be sure to check with 4Star

5. Sounds good.

For sealant and the wax, you can use a Gray or Blue Polishing pad as they have no cutting capability. Speed 3-4 should be good.

Welcome to AF. Your plan looks great. As others have said I wouldn't worry about the cleaner wax since the car is new. You are going to love UPP. So easy to use.

The clay will take care of any existing product on the car, so there is no need to wash with dish soap, of which really shouldn't be used on a car. That's just my take and experience:)

thanks guys appreciate the help. my plan is to doit every 1-2 months but realistically prob wont be able with two little ones and a bunch of other hobbies. I definitely might do it if it comes up as good as everyone says it will though. more motivation for me!:D
