Sunday vs. 2001 pozzi blue Ferrari Maranello 550

Hi everyone. Today was a lot of work, but a lot of fun. Something about working on a car you totally lust after that makes the day seem effortless (despite a lot of effort!)

The car is a 2001 Ferrari Maranello 550 (5.5L 485hp/419tq V12) in pozzi blue; the car has about 10,000km and the paint condition was pretty bad. Not many deep scratches (two near the gas cap, one near each door handle, on good one on the passenger side door), but tons of pretty deep swirls. Quite a few stone chips for a car with only 10k on it too; the paint was very workable, definitely on the soft side of average.

Process was:

Menzerna IP/RMG mix/orange pad via rotary @ 1500rpm

Menzerna FPII/RMG mix/grey pad via rotary @ 1200rpm

Menzerna PO10FF/grey via PC.

I did the third step only because there was still a very small amount of micro-marring left by FPII. I could have gone right to LSP, but there's nothing wrong with being a perfectionist. :)

LSP = Poorboys EX-P

Souveran

Poorboys NL on trim, Nevr Dull on exhaust/polished wheel lips.

Interior just got a vacuum and some Megs interior dressing, it was in great shape.

Sorry for the no-sun afters, what can I say? It went away and I was pissed. 6 hours of sun and we pull it out and bang, overcast. My interior halogen shots show the results on the paint, shame they're so dark. Anyway, I'd definitely let anyone go over this car with the halogens; it came out very very well. The only real marring left were the scratches I mentioned above and of course some stone chips.

More afters incomming.

Geezus the neglect some people inflict on their rides never ceases to amaze me.. Outstanding transformation.. Ex-P and Souveran - excellent combo

 Awfully sexy car!

Awfully liquid-looking finish you put on it!

Wish there were more of those to go around.

 Those before shots are horrible

The after shots, :bow

Clear, wet and deep, just like how Ferrari paint should look. Well done!

That's some abuse in the before shots.....the "letting it stay dirty and crusty" kind of abuse. The after shots are outrageous...very concours. :2thumbs:

I love the job on the wheels & tires and the interior....showroom perfect! :cooleek:

That is really nice work!

What? No RMG with the 106ff?

Thanks everyone. :) I wish I'd have been able to get some sun shots.

No RMG in the 106FF, why? Three reasons; I didn't want to hide any of the marring I may have left (even those I isa:water before lsp), 106FF doesn't dust much in my experience anyway, and lastly; I ran out of RMG! :)

Wow, nice turnaround!

I have a very similar car sitting here in the showroom awaiting a good detail, except it's a 575 Maranello. Same color with tan interior.

Looks awesome. Nice work.

beautiful work! :bow it's nice to see that some people will actually use they rides albet a quarter million dollar ride!!! :soscared:

I agree - even though it's obvious the wash routine for this car is not good (working on that), it's nice to see the owner *driving* it. Just the day before he was out on an "exotic ride" with about 60-70 other exotics, about 400km or something. Here are pics if anyone is interested.

(yes, some of the paint in these pictures is downright scary!)

You're really liking using the rotary eh?

Yep, I'm a convert for sure. I love my PC, and it's still great for one-step's and finishing, but the rotary saves you *so* much time. This car took ~6 hours. With a PC I expect it'd taken 8+ easily.

And ya, the color is so nice. I was literally steaming that the sun disappeared as soon as we rolled it out. When I go back to do his ML I am going to try to get more pics!
