Sully's Detailing: Ferrari F430

I just bought some wheels and the guy selling them said that they may need to be polished up a little. He said his kid tried to clean em with simple green and they are all smeared looking. Is this going to be a problem that my Klasse wheel cleaner and some Meguiar's #20 can handle? I have owned these same wheels before and they haven't ever seemed to be that hard to keep clean but I haven't ever had to start with dirty wheels before. I always keep mine clean so I wouldn't know what to do if they were dirty. :D These are the wheels. They have a polished lip that is pretty deep so maybe that is what he is talking about when he says "smeared". It is a mirror like polish on there and I can see how it would look bad if it were smeared. Simple Green wouldn't ruin the wheels would it?

I used a WD-40 type product but it was a rusted joint releaser fluid type. I got some on the wheel on accident and when I wiped it off, it took off all the break dust with it, so I used it on the whole wheel. I then used some wheel cleaner and then some Pinnacle Paint Cleansing Lotion (it was clearcoated though)

If their not polished the simple answer is aluminum polish.

First soak with P21S Gel cleaner. This is really concentrated and best used only on really caked on dirt and brake dust. Then use a good metal polish. I like Blue Magic, Wenol and Mothers to name a few. Back and forth motions, plenty of clean applicators. This will do wonders. Use a toothbrush in the crevices then follow up by hand.

If damage is really embedded, use wet 1500 grit sandpaper and remove it then follow with polish.

I have saved many wheels this way.

I just got the wheels and guess what...? They look clear coated.

The deep dish part of the rim is in pretty bad shape. The lip is peeling in a lot of areas. What can I do to get rid of the old clearcoat and put new stuff on?

I've never restored wheels before but these are sort of worth it to me. If I can repair the clear coat damage then they are going to be great rims. I have all day on Saturday to work on them so hopefully I can get some good advice on this. Is this kind of damage even repairable?

Car looks fantastic Sully! You mentioned that it's a 6 Speed - nice to know that they still make Ferrari's with a clutch/shifter combo.

Not bad at all, you gotta try some Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant top with Blackfire Midnight Sun Caranuba Paste Wax and get hook on the " Wet Ice Over Fire Shine " and also which polishes did you use for correction work?:Car smiley:
