Suggestions or Tips for a 2006 vette

I will be detailing a 2006 victory red Vette on Saturday. It's my Dad's, so I have have to do a great job for Fathers day.

I plan on using Clay if needed, FPII, RMG topped with Soverean. I have never done a vette before, I hear the paint is very hard. It's brand new, only dealer induced swirls, I doubt he has wahed it yet. It's a few months old.

Thanks for any tips.

Me and the car, it's a Callaway.

Looks like you've got a fine plan.

The current GM paints are fairly hard, but are still easy to work with and finish real easily.

The RMG/Souveran should really make it pop and be WET on that bright red.

Being it is a 2006 I hardly believe that it will need clay, once again. Everyone wants to clay everything. A good wash and wax is all you need. The finish on the vets are very slick and cleans up very nice, it is one of the fiew vehicles on the market where the paint is wonderful to work with. If you wash the vehicle and chamois it and the finish is still slick don't clay, your wasting your time if you do clay. If clay is needed anywhere it might be the front where road grime has stuck to it, but I doubt this is the case for a 2006.

By the way, love the vet.

Your process sounds very nice! :hifive:

I would clay it. Depending on the package Z51 or not, the pads with the Z51 have a little more bite to them so you will want to get any brake dust off of the paint with clay.

AP1 I guess you never worked with a swirled up vette, they are not so wonderful to work with. :waxing:

No it does not have the Z51 package :aww: , but it does have 490hp. :woohoo: I'm guessing he has less than 1k miles on it, so I don't think the brake dust will be an issue. I did notice black specs all over the paint. I think it is from the shipping wrap.

I have worked with many vets including a swirled up vet, '97 black one in fact. I wasn't talking about swirls, talking about the need to simply get the vehicle right for his dad.

As far as the black spots, they are not normally from shipping wrap. Is the vehicle around trees? Sometimes little black spots (if they are on the top surfaces) are from tree droppings. Not referring to tree sap but certains trees drop little black dot looking things that look like paint, rubbing alcohol will remove these. If you want to clay go for it, still don't think it's necessary.

To remove the black dots yes clay bar will work good for that, try rubbing alcohol first.

He mentioned it was a Callaway.

Vette clear is pretty difficult to correct (if correction is needed), but the process is no different than any other vehicle.

my bad. :sadpace: didn't catch callaway. most likely a little more than 490 if turbo'd!

Wow that's a sweet car!

I've only come across 1 Vette so far at the dealership, and the thing had incredible looking paint for a GM. I wouldn't clay it unless absolutely nessesary, since they do have a super finish from the factory. It should look great when you're done!
