I just got my UDM and would like some advice, this is what I have and would like to work w/(I normally read & read & well, read more till I find what I need to know but all the products and lingo and the experience of where to start is my prob)
I got this kit UDM + DAS pads Ultimate Detailing Machine Car Polisher Kit -- Porter Cable 7424 Alternative
Also have 4"pad+ Sonus SFX-1 Porter Cable 7424 Car Polisher Scratch Remover Kit
Then after reading good things about Duragloss, I got 901(wash),101(PC), 951(AW), waiting on 105 as none OTC, may get 601 later also.
Mothers Carnuba Cleaner wax
3M Perfect-It 3000 rubbing compound
some misc MF towels(target and others), MF applicators, ect..
Meguiars Clay bar kit(Quick Detailer+Cleaner Wax)
Eagle One Nanowax(any good??)
Any tips suggestions on pad/product(I know it depends on the condition). Just not real sure where to start and what to use before the AW(till I get the 105). What would work best for a swirl remover?? SFX-1 and Orange? Is te Mothers cleaner wax any good or the Meg's cleaner wax?
I'm new at this stuff, more mechanically/fabrication/elictrical inclined and a fast learner. I built a car, brand new '89 Dodge Turbo(everythings new, painted last year 04 Nissan Altima Silver metallic) look here(need to update pics as its all together now) http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2641801
Anyway going to practice on my DD, '99 Grand AM. Then go to the race car. The GA has swirleys and mediocre condition paint(purple, I know:har: ). Wash it, should use the clay but dont really want to waste it on this pos unless it will cause me to not get a good finish. So I was thinking of starting out w/ the SFX-1 and the Orange pad. Then going to blue pad and 101. Then not sure what the Mother's is all about or the Nanowax( till I get the 105). Then do some AW. Sound OK?
Its just a cheap car just looking for practice now then when I get the 105 I do the racecar. That has newer paint(orange peel), wetsanded most of it w/ 1500 then 2000. Borrowed a cheap polisher and tried the 3M compound, took forever worked very little. I uderstand a rotory would be best, but I figured I'd try the 4" sonus SFX-1(or 3M) to knock down some of the orange peel, will this work?Or should I sand it all perfectly flat?
Then whatever you guys suggest for the question above for a swirl remover. Then the 101 w/ whatever pad(blue/white) you suggest. Top it w/ 105 when it gets here. Weight 12-24hrs do the 101 again, then wait and do some 951AW.
Any help, suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated in advance
