Suggestions for noob

We just recently purchased a 1999 Bounder (Fleetwood) motorhome...

It's been garage kept for all but it's 23000 miles, but I doubt it's ever had anything more than possibly a spray wax at a car/RV wash done to it.

I've got a full compliment of zaino products that I use on my motorcycles (always applied by hand) but the most abrasive thing in my arsenal is ZAIO.

The paint on the MH is definitely oxidized but not to the point of chalking or anything, however some of the "pin striping is coming up due to dried adhesive.

After reading a bit here I'm thinking of getting the DA from harbor freight to tackle the RV...

Looking for suggestions as to what pads to use and do I need to pick up something a bit more abrasive to clean up the oxidized paint? (clay bar doesn't clean it up, obviously)

Also any suggestions for chemical to remove the striping adhesive?

I'm not looking for perfection, but would like a decent surface that has some hope of holding a bit of protection.

I also happen to have a kit of HD Nitro that I was going to try on my new ZX6R and would have a lot left over after the bike...

Thanks for any suggestions.

The only motor home I've ever done I had great success with Meg's heavy oxidation remover, and Meg's RV polish. I follows up with Meg's #26 but later found out I should have gone with something more durable. For the initial wash I used Sno Bol toilet bowl cleaner diluted down to about 1 part cleaner: 4 parts water. I picked up that tip from an RV forum and it worked amazingly well at getting the RV clean and didn't damage anything.

The polish and heavy oxidation removers I used on a wool pad with a rotary on a harbor freight rotary. Following the advice of a few in this forum I learned that when it comes to gel coat you can go at it hard.

Of course all of this was on a big RV from the 80s that was chalky as hell and had black spots all over it, all of which was gone after a wash with toilet bowl cleaner.

ZAIO might be all you need. It certainly is more durable than any AIO out there. It cuts surprisingly well with a good polishing pad. I'd hate to spend all that time cleaning it up just to need to do it twice. I'd do a test area and see what you think, then perhaps step up to a compound like HD CUT or UNO and finish off with ZAIO

Yeah, like I said, the RV I did it on was in terrible shape to behind with. Just figure is throw some things I learned out there. Although I hav washed a few RVs with the toilet bowl cleaner method and the results are always great for me.

I'm not kidding when I say long sleeve shirt, pants, rubber gloves and eye protection are a MUST when working with this stuff. It will burn your skin otherwise... And it's only necessary if the RV is badly oxidized. It definitely helped my pads last longer. (I did a test spot with heavy oxidation remover before washing an my pads would just get cake with white chalky crap after one section.

for the adhesive, 3M, makes and adhesive removal wheel.

as for the machine, id get a rotary for all gel coat repairs...it will take too long to do with a DA IMO.
