Subaru or Japanese Import Wheel Paint

To all,

I love NASRACER's wheel scuff aka "curb rash" home repair technique post in Detailing Articles, and want to try it for some curb rash I have on at least three of my 2002 GT rims(okay, wife has been curb happy lately)

However, I cannot find a source for automotive wheel touch up paint. I have searched google over and over to find matching wheel color paint for my Suby?

Any Subaru owners out there who have links or tips for finding spray wheel touch up paint?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Great question. I would probably ask a local bodyshop or an auto parts supply supplier for some suggestions. I know I'll need some eventually, so make sure you post your finds! ;)

ask the dealership you bought your car from. If they have it the paint or if they have a preffered body shop. If the body shop doesnt sell it to you they will tell you were you can get it.

I have a local shop that specializes in making custom mixed auto paint in spray cans. You just tell them the colour code or colour you want and they say they can mix it up for you. I got some touchup paint for my door mouldings and it was close colour-wise, but the metallic flake they used was noticably coarser than OEM, so it was a mixed bag.

I asked them about this very issue - paint for wheels and they suggested calling up a wheel refinishing company to ask about the paint colour/code then get them to mix it.

I recently did a Google search for my OEM wheels and they list the colour of them as being called "argent" (argent silver I assume). Hopefully that will be enough info to go on for me.

HTH, good luck!

Thanks guys. I wanted to see if I could find an aftermarket place rather than going through the dealership(you know, they charge $$$$) .

However, I will check with the dealer for the color code, and then ask auto body/wheel places for color codes to find the paint.

I may just locate a "rim" repair shop. I know there is a mobile unit that will do the work. I think the name is Rim Doctor. I just was concerned with the quality of work and price!

I thought the tools used by NASRACER were inexpensive and I could try and do this myself.

Thanks

Shane
