Strong OTC wheel cleaner?

I've got a trio of BMW's coming up to detail with the classic blackened wheels from BMW's brake pads.

I usually use simple green, but I'm looking for something OTC that might be more powerful.

I can get wheels nearly spotless regardless, I'm just trying to look to cut down on some scrubbing and claying time.

Thanks.

When I do wheel's I rinse the car, and then liberally spray on Simple Green and let it sit while I wash the rest of the car.

Once the car has been soaped and rinsed off, I rinse the wheels and take a Magic Eraser to them.

In my experience, I've found that the Simple Green "loosens-up" the tougher dirt/brake dust, and allows the Magic Eraser to last longer (not as tough scrubbing).

I second the Eagle One. Great stuff and it saves having to use different products for the wheels and tires.

I used to prefer the Eagle One, but their recent change to a foamy solution just doesn't seem to work as well with me anymore. I prefer the spray on liquid, as it seems to penetrate better than the foam. With the E1, after some scrubbing, I was left with a rim full of suds and little cleaning solution. So, I have been using the TW Platinum lately...

Eagle One did not remove baked on brake dust from my BMW. I will try your Simple Green and Magic Eraser technique.

actually the Prestone wheel cleaner is good-I can't compare it to Eagle one but IMO stronger than the Michelin wheel cleaner

That's exactly why I became a magic eraser convert. Baked on brake dust just doesn't come off w/ other wheel cleaners w/o extreme elbow grease. Other wheel cleaners will loosen up the dust, but when you swipe the eraser, it takes it off.

If you dont get everything on the first swipe, or there's some really stubborn patches, don't use "too much" pressure, just keep on going over it with light pressure and it'll come off.

Now if you've got goo, don't use the magic eraser (it'll just eat it up faster). Use something like goo-gone, or desolv-it. A stronger concentration of Simple Green for the goo will also do the trick. I use a 10:1 water/SG for all purpose cleaning.

Let me know how it work for you! :2thumbs:
