stripping wax without affecting Klasse SG layer?

I'm almost finished with my multiple layers of SG and I'm planning to top with some caranauba. I want to experiment with several caranaubas one by one to see which one looks the best.

How would I be able to strip off wax without affectiing the SG layer? I already know that the overrated Dawn wash will not work on wax...what can I do?

I dunno if anybody's gonna go out on a limb and actually suggest anything. Trying to "remove a layer of wax without removing the underlying layer of SG" is a pretty tall order. You can try the Dawn (no it doesn't "strip" wax, and no it's not good for cars but it won't hurt anything with infrequent use either, at least not on a newish car) or a *very* strong regular wash solution maybe Pinnacle's Bodywork Shampoo (it's pretty tough on wax), but there can't be any guarantees.

How will you know you got the wax off? SG beads, so you can't go by that. I guess you'll know if you try to add more SG and it just smears instead of bonding.

I wouldn't top the SG until a) you're sure you have enough SG on there, and b) you're sure the wax will make it look better (to you). Your plan to exeriment with different waxes might be mutually exclusive to your plan to keep the layers of SG intact.

If it were mine, I'd just use AIO and start my Klasse from scratch.

I really don't think you are going to be able to strip the carnuba without taking off at least some SG - you would have to be aggressive enough to know that you removed all of test wax 1, to accurately evaluate test wax 2.

Why don't you apply your canubas to different sections of the hood, evaluate them, then do the rest of the vehicle with that carnuba?

If you can still see patches of the underlying test carnubas on the hood, then you only have to redo the hood from AIO up ...

:)

I'd experiment with using AIO as an additive to car wash soap, maybe 2 capfuls in the bucket. I occasionally use a half capful per bucket to "exfoliate" grime and just a tad of the SG to reveal "fresh" SG. Caveat: these are my impressions and have no scientific basis. However, if your wax is of the S100 type (low durability) as opposed to the Collinite type (long life waxes), your chances of some measure of success increases. Still, there is no guarantee of 100 % removal. Try it, if you're not confident that you got it, then you'd have to start from scratch. Or experiment and top it with SG anyway and see if it holds. The worst that could happen is that you have to start from scratch.
