Streaking with Opti-Seal - Best method to get rid of it?

First time Opti-Seal user and am getting streaking due to too much product usage? So I do not affect the products curing whats the best method to get rid of it?



Just buff with a MF or buff with a QD and a MF?





Initial impressions, not bad but nothing outstanding. Worked good on some plastic parts of the engine and interior but really didnt do anything for the outside trim and that piece of trim between the windshield and the engine bay, I was hoping it would darken it like PBs Trimrestorer but not wash off like PBs does.

What type of applicator are you using, and how are you applying the product (to the applicator or directly on the paint)?



I've found that I avoid streaking by using the product sparingly and applying directly to a 4" microfiber applicator pad. It is absorbent enough that it doesn't just spread the product around and I can use varying amounts of pressure to vary the load of the product application. If I see streaking a use less pressure and if I feel like the pad is running out of product and can press harder to get the proper coverage on the paint.



I spray one pump on the pad for each panel of the car and toward the end of the car I find my pad to be moist enough that one spray lasts for two panels (if I apply a little extra pressure to coax the product from the pad).

Thanks for the reply. I put it on too heavy. I used about 1/2 ozs for the whole car. But that includes all door jambs, interior and exterior trim, plastic under the hood, all paint under the hood, under the trunk and the rims. I have a client coming over tomorrow to check out my car to see if my work is up to his standards then he is going to throw me some work. I must say I havent worked on this car this hard in about two years.



I was applying to the paint directly, I did about 6 squirts on the hood and then one to two for about each other panel including the roof. The spots that it streaked I just took a Pakshak MF and buffed out.



Next time I will use less. Oh and I was using the yellow foam applicator that came with it.





One more thing, how long before I can apply another coat? I always like to do two to ensure even coverage.

I'd wait a day before doing the second coat, and it will take even less product this time. FWIW - I've done 2 vans, 3 SUV's (mid-size) a truck and a car and you can hardly tell the bottle has been touched!
 
A half ounce is enough to do 4-5 cars. If OS is not drying within 30 seconds, you are using too much.



You can apply a second coat in about 30 minutes or so.

Just curious, what surface prep did you do? Why I ask is that I found really hard to get to streak till I tried it over fresh coat Poli-Seal then I had all kinds of streaking problems. I waited to the next day and tried again over day old Poli-Seal and had no problems, I think it just needed to cure some or it will streak. I tend to agree that Opti-Seal is a really nice product but not earth shacking either. I personnel like the looks of OS over Clear-Seal unless you add Z8 to the mix then Z8 and CS together looks better than OS. I have tried OS and OSW it comes close to the CS and Z8 but not quite.

I put on 5 coats of OS within 5 hours with over load or streaking but didn’t seem much of improvement after the second coat. I received my OS a few days after the release and it seems to be holding up well. Trim it just coats but make sure you trim is clean and free of wax or polish residue or OS will just lock it in and it is a hard to remove.

Thank you. This bottle will last forever then! I must say I really like the look. It is counter intuitive given it looks like water, sprays like a perfume sampler but works incredibly well. Again, based on your recommendation, I purchased it and I'm glad I did. After all the work I put into the car, the OS is the capper.

Prep was:



Wash with Megs Gold class and foam gun



Polished the whole car with the UDM on speed 6 with a LC VC white pad and Menzerna Final Polish II



Applied Danase Wet Glaze by hand



Applied OS by hand







If I get streaking now I just buff it off with a MF.
 
I was hoping for more gloss and shine but its decent and worth the $22 I guess. IMO still nothing compares to the old formula of Z2, man I wish they still made that.
 
I am very happy with the results I have seen from OS! It cuts a lot of time out of my details and looks fantastic. I think a lot of it's appeal comes from the ease of use. You put it on and walk away!! My only issue with it is durability. I am still thinking that I will get more durability out of #105 or #16.....but....it's a lot more work! Any comments on this would be appreciated! Scottwax?
