Stopping Static Electricity

I have been having some problems with static electricity here in my apt. I can't touch anything without getting shocked. We have had the heat on pretty much all month due to the cold weather here. The static electricity has been so bad that I went to touch my laptop mouse and it shocked me and the laptop turned off. My gf didn't believe but then the same thing happened to her last night. Is this really bad for my laptop? The laptop is plugged in to a surge protector whenever I'm not mobile. Is there something I can do to prevent the static electricity in my apt? Thanks for the help

Get a ground strap that goes in your shoe from radio shack.

Would that help with the zapping I get every time I get out of my car?

If so, could you please p/m me a link or picture?

Thanks!

Hey, for the first time I look to left and look at what I see-ads for products that take care of just this dilemma.

Yea, the google ads are pretty uncanny. :ghost

Inside th house a humidfier will work wonders. You can even use a little fountain - I do in me office.

In the car I use anti static sprays. Keep it in the garage. Whenever I get a shock, I spritz the carpet and seats when I get home that day. I have never used up a bottle or can of static guard but it seems I have to buy a new one each winter. I expect that when I move, I'll find 20 half empty anti-static sprays in a remote corner of my garage! :lmfao

I use about a capful of Snuggle (Downy would probably work) into a quart spray bottle and fill with water. Spray this lightly over the carpet. I've been using it for a number of years.

I don't know how to prevent the static electricity - but before you touch your laptop I reccomend touching a metal object to discharge you. I've lost a few motherboards from not being properly discharged.

Stop dragging your feet across the carpet! :D

just can't help my self from giggling at that line.... sorry

Yeh static electricity discharge will destroy a computer if it is hit in the right place.

loose the sneakers, humidifiers, check your shopping centers I though there were sprays you'd use for cloths that remove static, not sure what is was called.... saw it on a commercial.... a chick thing... dress... static... spray on.... look in the laundry dep.
