Sticking with the same brand. Important or no?

Okay, for my first newbie question I'd like to get this uncertainty of mine cleared up. I tried searching for this answer, but wasn't really sure what to use for search keywords.

In my weeks of browsing the web and forums prior to joining, I've made notes and have lots of various products and brands on my "wishlist". However, how important is it to stick within a brand or a family of products?

For example, is it okay to wash with Dawn (prep for new wax), use Mothers clay with Meguiar's QD, polish with Adam's, and seal with Pinnacle? Or would it be best to stick with say a complete Meg's routine?

Welcome to DC!

Sticking with the same brand. Important or no?
To me, not really.
I do often use products from the same manufacturer, but if I didn't have it on hand, I would not hesitate to use one of my other brands of product.

I believe some products are made to complement each other. The Zaino products come to mind. The Klasse Twins, and some Duragloss products. But in general, mixing and matching is not much of an issue.

That said, it's sometimes useful to buy certain things from one company. For instances in polishes, Megs 105 is designed to be followed with M205. The Poorboy's line makes a nice progression from SSR3, to SSR2.5, SSR2, and SSR1. If you were to use M105 to cut, which PB product would make the most sense to move to for the next step? The answers may not be obvious to someone new.

Some chemistry of certain products cause issues with other products. Trying to put a Carnauba wax of some sealants doesn't always work well. As you go along, you'll learn these things, but sometimes it's "safer" to stay in one family for certain things.

Simple answer - no, it is not important.

Agreed! Actually, the simple answer is buy them all!

As mentioned, there are a few exceptions where products are designed to work together and the best results will be achieved when they are used together, but for the most part, you can mix and match as you please.

BTW Eric, thank you for searching!:bigups

If you already have all the above Products,I t looks like you are already ahead of Tha Curve:bigups

Every manufacturer makes one or more super excellent product(s). Many of us have enough "time in grade" to mix and match these from various vendors with excellent results. Any harm using all from one vendor? No. Is it necessary? No.
Any advantage in using products from many vendors? Yes. This also depends on how heavy duty you plan on getting into the detailing thing in addition to how much time and money you have to spend.

Simple works for me. I am a simple man. :)

As you go through the process of trying many products from as many vendors, you will come across a few that don't work well with others (as already mentioned Zaino is one). But probably the worst that can happen is that you shorten the longevity, or you just don't care for the look. Experiment as you wish. That keeps things interesting for some of us and gives us all something to cuss and discuss in the forums. :D

I Agree,

Just Today It took me 3 Different Suppliers of Just Wax Alone to Acheieve the look I was Demanding was gonna Happen:wall:wall:wall

And then there were at least 5 Different Suppiers that I used on the rest of the car:wall:wall:wall

It can become Quite a Game of Cat and Mouse:passout:

What will work on 1 Car, Doesn't Mean it will work on the next 1:dunno:

Great! So it sounds like I can start off with a coating of Skippy, apply some Smuckers, and finish with Fluff as an LSP.:yay

I won't say I have nothing. I have the basics for washing and QD, but half of what I have needs to go bye bye. So I will be building my wishlist to get my car properly clean, corrected and shiny. So I'm a long way from the curve.

Er, technically I have a $0 budget. But I'll come up with money as needed. Wifey agrees that the cars need to be properly protected, since we intend to keep them for quite a while. At this point, I just intend to do my cars to keep them well maintained. However, if I enjoy it, I will probably help out with family member cars, and maybe a few friends to make a buck or two on the side. But one step at a time. I've yet to do one car!

yeah ive just bought all different brands for variety mostly .. for example

now i am washing with megs gold class, claying with mothers/showtime, polishing with poorboys and waxing with P21s or optimum spray or nxt 2.0 .
