I just got a 7" orbital polisher/buffer and the book with it said to only use the wool bonnet for dry buffing with no product on the pad or the car...i thought that wool was a cutting pad for heavy scratches and swirls, how should I use the wool bonnet...I also have foam and terry bonnets. I have some swirls and scratches and the car is black so I am contemplating using the wool with my 3M SMR and then 3M IHG with the foam and hand applying the wax and terry buffing for removal...question 2 is: when using my 10" buffer(now I realize it is too big) I would apply a swirl of product on the bonnet, what is the correct amount to use? I read that one ring around the outer edge of the bonnet will suffice.

The wool pad isn't really a pad you use on finished paints. It is more used for heavy buffing like the first compounding for fresh paint and for deeper scratches.



You'll need to use the SMR with a foam pad. You will get major swirls with the wool pad.



Most people here don't like using a terry bonnet for buffing. Doing it by hand would be easy enough and less risky.
