Steps between polishing stages

How thoroughly do you remove a cutting polish before following with a swirl remover polish, or before a finishing polish? Is it necesary to wipe away every last spot/spec? Do you use a QD Spray inbetween, or is this a waste of time/product? Thanks for any info.

I normally just buff off with a MF towel before I move to a lighter polish, but if you want to do an isopropyl alcohol wipedown that wouldn't hurt.

I wipe my sections off as i am polishing, but if there is a little residue left that i missed, i just go over it.

I throw products in the trash that dont wipe of easy, so i dont QD for polish removal, but i might QD for the compuonding dust.

If there are a few specks of cutting polish left, what would it hurt? The polish should be broken down, so the abrasives certainly shouldn't be any larger than the ones in the next polish. I just wipe off the majority of the cutting polish and go right back over it if there's some light residue somewhere.

No I generally do not use a QD spray in between. Occasionally I rewash the car after compounding though, just to get any dust off of the car and out of the door jambs/crevices.

A QD or alcohol wipe will ensure there is no residue left. Do you need to do it, no but for a few seconds work you know the job is done properly

Always use QD. Quik shine is my prefferred one as I have found it to enhance depth and wetness a little bit after four to six steps of rotary work.

Mind you the last three are VM, RMG and YMW so only refining the paint, not removing it.

It depends on the polish in question. Many aggressive polishes break down to something even finer than the next polish will start out as (sorry about the lousy sentence construction there :o ). But generally, I'm with Lowejackson on this- a quick spritz of #34 and another wipe only takes a second, better safe than sorry.

Depending on what polish im using really, between milder polishes sometimes I dont, and just wipe wipe a MF. A quick spritz of QD and a wipe with a MF is normal for me after polishing each panel as part of my evaluation processs, especially during the paint correction process.
