Stealing (not pics this time)...

I don't consider this as bad as the pic stealing Joe of Superior Shine went through (and probably still deals with), but it should stand as reinforcement to keep on the lookout for stealing of pics, ideas, in this case articles, etc...

I'm honestly unsure of whether or not this has been posted here, but I'm going to post it regardless due to it bugging me for quite some time now...

I don't know Mike but after trying to contact him regarding this and getting nowhere, I have a negative opinion of him as a person and detailer due to him completely copy/paste-ing an article I wrote to cover the process of detailing fairly thoroughly.

A process of a complete detail: - Lamborghini Forum

So again, keep an eye open and report stuff like this, because it's always a bit worse when it happens to you.

damn that sucks...he always seems to be working on nice cars, I would assume he could get his own write-up done...

I thought the same thing and when I first saw it thought he might have posted it as a reference only, but reading through how he edited out some of my writing and didn't mention anything about who wrote it points in the other direction. Ridiculous if you ask me.. at least edit the damn thing so it's not pure copy/paste

get over it...

It's not even close to stressing me out and giving me sleepless nights but I don't like thieves and I want other detailers on the board to be aware and copyright/protect their stuff as much as possible... something wrong with that?

if you put it on the internet people will copy it simple as that..... if you dont want it to be copied keep it to yourself..... not that big of a deal

Thats Bogus... Good catch!

Are you serious..... so plagiarism is ok with you??

its okay with me.... its just a how to.... not like the declaration of independance

We had a guy, he might still be there for all I know, on a local forum that was a porter for some used luxury dealer. He'd always steal detailing articles online and repost them as his own. And he always made it sound like he owned this car dealership but he was just some porter there that did nothing but wash the cars.

wow, this is alarming. My name is Mike and I'm a porter at a Benz dealer. I haven't posted any pics of anything, so if it is me, someone is hacking my account. I have too much respect for pro's to steal their work, plus not to sounds arrogant, but i think my work is plenty good. The next car I do, I'll put up some pics so i can get some advice

It's the principle of the matter... if you don't care about principles then this is a pointless thread for you and there's really no point to voice a difference of opinion. The simple matter is that he stole, as the first sentence reads "Everything I post is something I’ve done..." and without my name anywhere near there, it makes him a thief. The fact that he hasn't come forward and said a word about it makes him a worse thief, in my opinion at least.

No it's not the Declaration of Independence, but what if someone who doesn't care about literature or poetry at all posted something as their own... considering you actually do appreciate fine poetry or writing you would feel wronged, even if it wasn't you from who it was stolen...

Truly sorry, you probably spent hours doing this write up and someone goes online, takes your work then claims the work as their own. But hey maybe it makes that person who took it feel good about themselves. We all know that you were the one who wrote it up.

And to whom posted before about getting over it, how would you feel? maybe you should keep those comments to yourself.

Why not steal the change from your customer's cars too? It's only change not $100 bills. If they did not want it stolen they should learn to wash the cars themselves.

Mary, as I stated before, I'm in no way stressed or worried about this. Simply want to make it a known fact what happened and to reiterate that people should be on the lookout for such things. I clearly remember feeling pretty mad at the person who copied Joe's photos and presented them as his own, on his own website...

this is a BFD are those who don't have any skin in the game. I'm a detailing hack for myself, family and a couple friends, I don't do it for a living. I've been educated by countless professionals who post here and selflessly share their experience so I don't have to learn the hard way. Often I read posts by pro's who have spent countless hours not only OCD'ing every nook and cranny, but then spend hours documenting their process in photos and text. I only learn and get better by your willingness to share your knowledge. Regardless of what a previous poster wrote, I do not want you to "keep it to yourself".

Again, IME, folks who see nothing wrong with plagiarism typically haven't invested time and effort only to have someone plagiarise their work. And the arguement that it's OK to steal intellectual property as long as it's not the Constitution says much about them. Wrong is wrong. No one said it was life or death.

To the OP, you're certainly not the one who needs to justify your position.

Bill
