Started my wetsanded and buffing project.

Figured I would share a little project that I just started today. All of my past rides have been cut and buffed and to me there is nothing nicer than flat paint with no orange peel. So I decided to start on my 06 gto today. Went down to AG headquarters to pick up my order today of a few things and then got started.

I am using Megs unigrit 2500 sandpaper and a soft block. I did a test spot with my Makita rotary equipped with a 4-3/4 backing plate and a CCS 5.5in yellow foam pad using FG400. It cut with no problem and left a nice finish. I will update as I progress but I will be sanding for awhile between work and family time.

Might give that new Pinnacle Synergy wax/coating a try after seeing Todd's review.

I got the hood/pass fender/ pass half of the roof sanded so far.

Are you taking any paint thickness measurements ? I would be interested to see how much clear that you have to remove to get the paint flat. I have thought about trying this on one of my vehicles but haven't had the guts to pull the trigger yet. Looking forward to seeing the outcome.

Honestly I am not. To be honest it hasn't required many strokes with the 2500 to get it to lay flat. In the past 8yrs my 3 camaros were cut and buffed all with factory clear. Luckily I have never had a issue burning through. Not too worried about my gto.

Re: Started my wetsanded and buffing project. (Finished)!!!

Finished sanding the rest of the car today paying attention to not sand near edges.

Got all the heavy compounding done. This is just using my makita rotary with a yellow cutting pad and menzerna fg400 compound. Then washing all of the sludge off.

Stayed up late and got it all done. Ended up going to straight to a white lc polishing pad with turbowax swirl remover/polish. Due to the lighting in my garage I was checking my work with a halogen light as I progressed. Still waiting for full on sun to really get some nice pics. I topped it with Victoria's concours red wax. Enjoy and sorry for all of the crappy cell phone pics. LOL

Man that red looks great ! Looks like you did a awesome job! So how many total hours would you say that you have tied up in this project ?

That is some really great work!

Thank you very much!

I would say right around the 20-25hr mark. I didn't sand the bumpers or the rockers and the top of the deck lid I sanded and buffed as a test spot last week so that was done. Roof/hood/sides.

Great job !!

More guts than I have

nice car btw

Thanks bud. Its really not that bad as long as you take your time with it.

I am assuming I will have to touch up a few areas that might have some sanding marks even though I was using a halogen and IPA to check my work as I went along.
