I used Mothers Metal Polish and it worked great on my rear exhaust. Just make sure to work it in and perform a good buff.

The best luck I have had is with steel wool and M105 followed by metal polish and a terry cloth towel. If you have scratches you want to get out try 00 steel wool with M105. If you are just wanting to clean it up a little then 0000 should work fine.

Autosol Metal Polish, I was surprised I got it shiny again in less than 10 minutes:

Here's the process that worked great on mine (My E46 M3 was 3 years old when I purchased it and by the looks of it the tips had never been cleaned).

Step 1:

I used Simple Green and a generic rag to get rid of the really heavy build up on the inside of the tips.

Step 2:

For the full clean up I went with a Mother's Micro Powerball and Mother's Billet. Rub the tips (outside first, then inside) with Billet by hand and then let it set for 3-5 minutes. Clean/buff the inside of the tips with the Micro Powerball and clean/buff the outside with a Target-brand MF (I save my higher end MF's for the paint).

Step 3:

To get rid of stubborn build up I used the Mother's Billet with 0000 steel wool (or use copper wool), re-clean/buff with the Micro Powerball for the inside and a Target-brand MF towel for the outside.

I maintain with a simple cleaning (Target-brand MF towel and QD) of the inside and outside everytime I ONR, QD or wash.

There is still some more work to be done since the initial cleaning revealed some pitting on the outside of the tips, but night and day vs what they used to look like.

Thanks ;) It's not so great, there is some 'corrosion' inside I was too laizy to sand out, but it's too good for my beater anyway :)

Yeah, Autosol in great product, I've tried it on varous metals and it's always turning out great really quick :2thumbs:

I first spray Tarminator on a rag and use it to remove the asphalt and debris, because that will cause the scratches, then follow up w/a steel wool 0000 and metal polish.

Thanks for replying all. Is it safe and ok to go ahead and use steel wool on the stainless steel tips? It will not scratch it?

Yes. The absolut cheapest and most effective way to deal with SS tips is #0000 Steel wool wetted down with glass cleaner. It's cheap and extreamly effective. Other products may work just as good. (I've yet to see anything on the market actually work better or quicker) but they are more costly for the exact same results.
