SSR1 to clean C.D.'s

COME AT ME BRO
I am not really sure where to post this, so it'll go here. I have recently decided to put all of my music in a digital format. This is no easy task as I have a couple of thousand to do. In doing so, I decided to sell all my cd's at cd shops and ran into the problem of having some titles that they would have bought had they not been so scratched up. So I came home last night and decided to give something a whirl. I got a test cd (a pretty scratched up one) and went out to the shop. Put the Sonus green polish pad on the PC, grabbed a clean MF, and got a little bit of SSR1. Held the cd with my left hand (this was a lot harder than it sounds...I put my index finger through the hole ever so slightly and used my thumb and other fingers to apply slight pressure to the opposite sides of the disc. This also allowed me to "roll" the disc to get all of the surface.) and the PC with my right. On a setting between 1 & 2, I polished the cd. I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out. It took me two "passes" with SSR1 to get the cd to near new quality (there's still a few scratches here and there, but no more than anything else the owner bought). I am going to go over a few more and take them back to the shop and see what the owner says. Kudos to SSR1 for doing another spectacular job on an "around the house" project. :bigups

On the pics, I tried to duplicate the same angles to show the amt. of scratches vs. the amt. removed. I also don't see why this would not work for scratched DVD's as well.

Thanks Jared, I have a couple of cds which are skipping and having tracking problem, will have a go with ssr1 or ssr2 by hand when I got the time :)

Chee, I tried a small spot by hand and had some improvement, just not what I was hoping for. I am sure if you worked it long enough by hand you'd get some better results than I did by hand. I just wanted to see if using the PC would make that much of a difference.

I've had success using Pro Polish and my magic hand polishing cloth, the Aquis hair drying towel I got from my wife. This appears to be the "Original" Aquis not the "Diva Dryer" nor the "Essential" but the "Original" if you want to try to get one.

I haven't tried the PC on CD's yet but instead of holding the CD - you might trying placing the CD - shiney side up on some gripper pad made for woodworking use with sanders or routers. You can get some at any HomeDepoLowe's for a couple of bucks. It's a mesh like stuff that resembles the no-slip stuff you put under throw rugs. That would be much easier and safer than trying to hold the cd, I would think.
:dunno
