SS Paint what to look out for?

I have a detail coming up and just wanted to know what to look out for. It will be an older bronco with SS Paint (I know I already tested a small spot). What precautions, things to look out for on this older car and this type of paint. Its 2 tone Blue up top and white down low, very oxidized and very faded. on the small section I did by hand it looks 100% better but no where near perfect.

I am worried about going through the paint to bare metal, I do know it will be repainted eventually, I just wanted a crack at it and got the go ahead...

I have M95, and HT-polishes (Heavy,Medium,Light)...what would be the safest best thing to do?

I have never done SS paint before.....How hard is cleaning pads after used on SS Paint?

I have done a few red, single stage cars, and typically to clean the pads, I spray Dawn power disolver on them, let them dwell for about 30 minutes, then work them under warm water with a tooth brush. I then toss them in the washer with Woolite, a small dash of APC, and wash them on the delicate cycle. Lastly, I let them dry on a wire rack. There is still going to be some color left on the pad after doing this, but they come out pretty clean.

Regarding your process, I would actually start out wiith Meguiar's 83 or 80 on a Meguiar's yellow pad at about 1400rpm just to see what happens. I have actually had 80 on oxidized paint clean it up really nicely, with nothing stronger needed. As Mike Phillips says, try a test spot first to dial in the method.

just go at it with a PC and a megs burgandy/LC yellow cutting pad and a megs line polish...I love 83 for this...cuts through oxidation with ease...then follow it up with something like megs 80 with a yellow polishing pad and then wax....

of course the pad/machine/polish combo will vary, but you get the point...cut it all away, then polish, then wax...

well the date is this saturday and I have all day to make it look good...I had pictures but well my 3 year old deleted them...I'll retake them and upload tomorrow

I'm going to start with an orange pad and HTMC Polish to see what happens, I know I will end up going to the yellow pad and probably the m95 will get used on this deal...the goal here is to provide CPR for the dead lifeless paint that is the 20+ year old bronco!

Edit: I dont have any m83 or m80 on hand or I'd def. start with that instead :(

IMO SS can be very soft so start easy

SS paint also respond very well to oil heavy polishes/Glazes & waxes

PM David703 he is the Bronko King
