Spraying Febreze/Oust through outside vents?

I had an idea that I thought was a good one, wanted to run it by you guys to see what you thought. Has anyone sprayed Febreze or Oust through the exterior intake vents while the fan is running? My thought is that it would eliminate the odors throughout the entire system, including any on the cabin air filter on those cars that have them.

I might try this on my wife's Forester XT this weekend. Run the fan on high with the recirc setting off so it draws in outside air, might turn the A/C on to make sure the deodorizers run over the coils, and give a few sprays into the exterior intake vents.

Anyone ever done this?

Lol I think that its funny that when people have good ideas and want to try them out its always on the wifes vehicle. LMAO!

That is funny, but in my case its not like that. I have a new Ridgeline, she has a 3 year old Subaru that doesn't smell fresh any more. Testing on my truck wouldn't make as dramatic of a difference.

that 's what you do but use Lysol disfectent spray because it will kill alot of the stuff that causes the odor

febreze will only hide it and there is a better chance of it comming back

I've used anything from bleach/water mix, Lsyol and febreeze to get rid of the moldy AC smell. Auto parts even sell a OTC product but they work about the same as the above only more $$.

I take Oust and then I spray Febreze. I spray them both while the AC is on FULL BLAST on RECIRCULATE mode and then i spray them under the passenger side dash. That's where the filter/fan is for the recirculate...

My suggestion...If you have HEPA/Carbon type cabin filters, take them out before spraying any cleaners through your ventilation system. If you keep them in they'll stop anything from proceeding past them. They'll just get saturated with whatever you're spraying in there and they'll actually end up smelling worse in the long run.

You can usually pick up a new set of filters for about 20-30 bucks. And they're usually pretty easy to change yourself. IMO they're worth it.

Also, tape up any gaps that may be open because you took the filters out before you spray the cleaner through.

If you're spraying into an outside vent, I've found that Febreze sometimes leaves reside on plastic. When I've tried Ozium, it seemed a little better IMHO.

I took a spray nozzle off a can of spray oil which held the red nozzle hose...I got one that fit either the Oust spray or Lysol ...I then stick the red nozzle tube down into the vent thru the cowl and spray while AC or heat is on full ....works great....

Sorry.......but I am unclear as to where to spray the stuff into. Is it under the hood or under the dash? I know it probably depends on the car.......Thanks

Its somewhat under the hood but more towards the cowl. Usually right below the wipers.

It all depends on the car, your owners manual should point you in the right direction. Some cars are easier than others, I have seen some filters snap into place, my VW requires the removal of 4 screws.
