Spots on Windshield???

I just got a new Mazda Tribute about 8 months ago, and I am having this horrible problem with spots on my windshield/other strange patterns.

I cannot see it when the windshield is dry, its looks perfect then (except for that BIG nick that a rock took out of my windshield 2 weeks after I bought it :mad: ). But when it rains, or if there is there is a moisture fog on the outside of the window in the morning and I turn on my wiper blades, you can just see it plain as day.

Its got spots on it, and its got these somewhat vertical wavy lines, like water ran down the windshield and left a track. It seems like the water is sticking to the spots, but I might be crazy. Only when the wipers are on though.

I have tried a lotof window cleaners, rubbing alcohol, and greased lightning (thought it might be oil or something). Even bought new wiper blades. Nothing works

I am going to try vinegar when I get home today, see how that works. If I have dew on my windshield tomorrow, I will take a picture of it. I'm not sure if its wax or hard water or sap.

Any other suggestions?

Welcome to the site...sounds like something that is sitting on the surface...The vinegar would have been my guess...I would also pickup some 0000 steel wool and use that at the same time....Polishing with window would be my next step...there are good ones here from the sponsors or you can get some at any decent auto parts store....let us know how that works with the vinegar

Can I put up that steal wool from a grocery store? Or someplace else?


I hope one of these does the trick, I don't want to have to get a new windshield. I am thinking its either from road grime or something, or the Car Pool place that has cleaned my car a couple of times.
 
vinegar works well. nu-finish cleared up my windshield when i got it from the dealer. if u want something dedicated try dps' glass restore.

but id go with vinegar and a microfiber first before going out and ordering products.

if u have klasse "aio" then try that too.

The 50/50 vinegar/water combo with a cloth didn't do crud, but the 0000 Steel Wool...................OMG. I had ot do it about 4 times, but it got most of it up!

I did the driver side only, so I can compare it to the passenger side when it rains, and it rained tonight. I have a little left on the driver side, but could barely tell. That 0000 Steel Wool worked wonders

Though I do have a little question? How much elbow grease should I put into the wool when I am using it? When I did it before, I pushed down softly on it. I dunno if that is why it took 4 times, and if putting more pressure is a good thing.

Also, is this safe for tinted glass? I think the tint is always in the inside, but I want to check first

Glad to hear that, then it means that its on the surface...you don't have to press super hard, but I would put a bit more than you have already...That seems to be the trcik to lifting the rest...I would follow this up with a good polishing to get all the stuff off leaving the glass super clean...Happy to hear that it worked for you


Also your tint should be on the inside of the window you would have seen it scratched when you used the steel wool the first time...Don't worry about the stell wool in won't hurt the glass
 
Great, didn't use it on my side windows at all, but i can use it on them on the outside


What is a good easy polish to use that is highly rec'd? I saw something called DP something, looked OK
 
OK, I had gotten 1/2 of it clear. But when I tried it again, it seems to have spread from the other side. Kind of hard to explain.

Its not the same pattern or streaks/haze/spots as before. I am using the 0000 Steel Wool with 50/50 vinegar/water. Something ufnny, after I use the steel wool for a while, it kind of turns a brownish color in spots. Is that rust on the steel wool?

Also, what is a good shop I can goto to but MicroFiber towels, other than ordering off the internet. Most places around here doesn't have the good car cleaning supplies.

I suspect that the brown spots are whats coming off the window...Clay will do the same thing.

Over the counter polish I would look a Meguairs and that DP brand....for micro fiber towels thats a hard one to answer. What part of the country are you in?

If I where you I would look at ordering from Autogeek or Poorboys they both have great towels
