Spilled Clorox 2

Hi:

I have a new car that I'm getting ready to Scotchguard or possibly 303 Fabric protector on the cloth upholstery. But before I do that I think there is a faint grease stain on the carseat's grey upholstery, perhaps from part of a palmprint, about 1x3". It's difficult to tell for sure since the cloth is the type that if you brush it one direction it looks darker than if you brush it the other; but no matter how I brush this with my hand, that slightly darker area persists. If it is grease, then it is faint and would need only very light cleaning. Any suggestion what to use so that I don't leave a more obvious spot? I don't want the cure to look worse than the symptom. What about spraying some Xenit on a cloth and lightly brushing it? Is that invisible?

Secondly, there is about a 1-inch ballpoint pen mark on the steering wheel vinyl. The ink is black on the dark grey vinyl so it's not very obvious, but I found it. What's the best product to take this off without hurting the vinyl? Again, would the Xenit be a good candidate to try? Thanks for any suggestions that you have tried.

Welcome to the forum!

there was a thread a while ago I think in Proffesional about removing ink. Take a quick look.

As for the seats I would try a fabric cleaner. I really like the Eiman Fabric spot cleaner.

I have found that if you are going to be looking for an 'off the shelf' type product, then you can't go wrong with Prestone foaming carpet cleaner. I've used it to take out everything from crayons melted into the seats to greasy footprints on the carpet. It really does work well on just about everything. You can get it in any Targe or WalMart. Don't be fooled by other foaming carpet cleaners. If you want one that works then go for the Prestone.

You can get the pen mark out of your vinyl with some Armor All (or other similar product) and a tooth brush. Spray the spot with the ink and then brush it like you were brushing your teeth. Not back and forth but rather in a circular motion around the mark. If you have some detailing brushes you might want to try one of them since the bristles might be a little stiffer. That should take care of it though. :xyxthumbs

Long time no post, but I got a sad call from my better half stating that roughly 1/2 of the 64oz bottle of Clorox 2 spilled in the back of our SUV. So far I have pulled the interior parts (plastic, carpet, rear seal) to thoroughly rinse and let dry. I'll let you know the outcome, but it looks good with no apparent damage , just lots and lots of water, foam and a bit of frustration on having to pull the rear insert carpet.

It didn't bleached out the carpet color?

Good news, no stains/bleaching. Everything finally dried in the sun and is reassembled like it should be.

I see, I wonder if is any good maybe to clean carpets

Wow, sorry to hear it happened but so glad it wasnt a gallon of bleach! :scared:

How did you every get the soap all rinsed out ?

Once I had a Detail and when I got around to extracting the trunk, soon as I hit it with water, it started foaming like mad - called the Client - said "oh yeah, we spilled some laundry soap back there awhile ago". Nice...

You will have the nicest smelling trunk for a long time to come, right ? :)

I was lucky Dan that I could pull the inserts, moldings and seal to rinse them completely - the wet vac routine wasn't working as well as I liked, so I just pulled it all out and hosed it down. No more foam, dry wells and happy wife; just keeps getting better each day.

Oh, it does smell pretty clean back there now after having to take most of the rear hatch apart to dry it out too :Swordfight:

Harry,

I am sorry to hear about the spill. I guess things could have been worse, if it were something else that spilled. I am glad to hear that the damage was limited, and there is no permanent stains. Good thing your wife has you!!!:hurray:

Sounds like its all better then ! Great work on removing all the interior parts and getting them all back in.

I cringe every time I have to do stuff like that because sometimes the fasteners break on you, etc..

Glad its getting better every day ! :)
