SpeedFreak Detailed: '99 Lexus GS400 transformation inside

This is one I did last summer and never got around to posting, so here it is. Quite the transformation, car looks pretty darn modern now!

I was contacted by this client who had seen my work around various forums. He had recently sold a 350Z and was in need of a larger, more commuter friendly vehicle. Being a fan of the old GS series from the late '90s-early '00s, he started looking for a fixer uppper. The client is a tuner, so he was targeting models in need of some work, as he had a boatload of modifications planned for the car. After stumbling on this '99 MY GS400 he pulled the trigger. The paint was in SERIOUS need of reconditioning, and the whole car was riddled with dents and dings that I would have to pull. The entire front end had been repainted at one time or another, and was dull, lifeless, and full of orange peel. Sanding marks and pigtails were abundant throughout, and I knew this one had the potential to be a superb turnaround.

After consulting back and forth, we settled on a full PDR package, full correction, and interior reconditioning. Also, a set of MIRO wheels & tires, and coilovers were mounted up to give the car a more modern feel and stance. The transformation is truly stunning, the once dull lifeless paint now sparkles and reflects light like it did 13 years ago. The client, couldn't be happier.

Quick before photo

Hood before, dull & lifeless, and full of defects

Getting to work on the hood, test spot after compounding

Moving along to the roof. It was hard to get defect shots due to all the light coming in those big windows, so focus on the increase in clarity in the following shots.

The front area of the roof was full of pigtails, proof that keeping your materials clean pays dividends

Lots of swirls and RIDS present aft of the sunroof

After compounding

The increase in crispness and clarity is substantial and evident after just the compounding stage

Moving along to the trunk, more of the same. Heavy swirling and RIDS present

After compounding

Couple of shots of the hood and driver's fender after compounding

Large scratch in driver's side front door

removed through compounding

Deep scratching on driver's side quarter

Removed

The A pillars were absolutely atrocious, and needed attention badly

The mirrors on both sides had also received the same sub par paint treatment as the hood.

And finally, on to the finished shots!

Thanks for looking,

Looks awesome! I'm very surprised that Lexus was OK with that massive mold parting line on the top of the mirror housing.
