Souveran Wax at $39.95 for 8oz

How is it possible to sell Souveran Paste Wax at such a low price:nixweiss? $69.95 verses $39.95. Does Souveran have a shelf life? Is the mark-up that great? At this price is Souveran's performance verses P21S worth the difference? Does Souveran apply and buff as easily as P21S? Any residual (dust)? Trim staining?

Sorry for all the questions but this price makes to hard to resist adding to detailing arsenal.:wavey

I think Souveran is easier to use than P21S.

I found that price the other day and posted the link in the P@!S sale thread.

To think I paid the 70 bucks.

Do you think this is an legitimate Pinnacle Souveran made by CMA? Would someone go to the hasssle of making counterfeit Souveran? Did you notice any difference between Souveran and P21S in appearance? My CC is half way out of my wallet.:scared

Last year I used only 2 carnaubas: Souveran and P21S. Got to learn first hand each ones characteristics. After one year you tend to agree with the Guru report. Anyone who still has not read the report really should obtain a copy. It has great info.

Souveran 8oz cost me not $39.99 but $49.99 plus $9 S&H for a total $58.99 or $7.37 per oz.

P21S 6.2 oz cost me $18.00 plus 6% tax plus $5.95 S&H for a total $25.03 or $4.03 per oz.

Cost aside these waxes are indeed similar. Easy on/off, no staining, very good shine, good initial beeding, cars looks terrific when just waxed, shelf life is at least 1 year. On my 911, Souveran lasts me 2-4 weeks and P21S lasts me 4-6 weeks. That's when the beads start to diminish. Souveran gives I think a little more initial pop in the color (Guards Red) but only after 2 layers then it appears to darken the color. P21S gives a more brighter look and appearance to the color.

Lower cost and longer beading makes P21S my favorite carnauba wax.

jmsc,

With cost and longevity aside, which would you choose? Which has the best appearance in your opinion? I LOVE P21S as my topper to BFII and I would not be even considering Souveran if it was not on sale. With a shelf life of only one year I may be wasting money because waxes normally last me 2-3 years.

I'm sure the shelf life is longer than a year. It's probably like most waxes which tend to be 3-5 years (though we take care of them, so it is probably longer). It's possible that the markup is pretty high on Souveran, and it's possible that they are hoping it will attract you to buy other stuff as well. Once you pay the shipping, it makes other non-sale items seem more appealing.

I doubt it is a counterfeit. I'm guessing I know where you saw the sale. They are one of the vendors of Pinnacle products. They are part of the same company as that other place that sells Pinnacle, the one that sells only Pinnacle. So I'm sure it's legit. I got my Souveran from them when they had that Forum Favorite kit. It was Souv, AIO, SG, Crystal Mist, and some towels for $79.95 (or $10 more than Souveran alone). That made me wonder what the story was too about pricing. But all sorts of places sell things for 50% or more off. And they aren't selling knock-offs or anything. There are usually many factors behind it. I don't know why they have it so cheap, but look at it as a good thing, not a shady one.

I ran a Souveran group buy about a year ago here and I learned a few things about Pinnacle. The main thing I learned is that nobody sells it at prices that low unless Pinnacle authorizes it. Its legit. I highly doubt that there is anything wrong with that wax at all. The worst that could be wrong with it is that it may be older stock. I doubt that matters to wax.

I still think I would go with P21S over Souveran just for the dust issues and the way P21S seems to rinse fairly clean in a rain storm. I think the optical differences are so slight that none of us here could pick out the side that was done with Souveran and the side that was P21S if you ran them on either half of a car.

I think another reason it may be cheaper is because Pinnacle realizes that P21S is getting a larger and larger following and they needed to drop their astronomical price in order to stay competitive. Now if they would just drop PPG by the same percentage then I would be happy. I love PPG.

BlkZ28Conv,

I would choose P21S for 2 reasons:

1. tighter beads (causes surface water to move off hood, roof and trunk faster)

2. brighter paint (I don't care too much for any wax that darkens my car paint i.e. Blitz)

My Opinion Only (I have not used/tried S100 wax)

I have several cans of Souveran that I have had on the shelf since 1999. I used some this weekend as a topper, and it was just fine. I would not worry about it going bad. That's why the container has an o-ring seal.

In so far as the price is concerned, there seems to be a price war going on. I've said this before, and I'll say it again, the brand name "Pinnacle Natural Brilliance" is trademarked and owned by Classic Motoring Accessories, LTD. CMA licensed another party to also make and market the Pinnacle line. Is there a difference??? There's not supposed to be... so I guess it all comes down to which organization do you trust?

My sources tell me that the "other company" ... the company that shall not be named because their law firm sends me nasty notes ... is trying to sell out. This being the case, I'm sure they are working hard to make sales look as good as possible, even if it means giving stuff away. :nixweiss

Just my $.02, but you might want to look at this Menzerna/Souveran kit from CMA. I have tried the Menzerna polishes and they blow away 3M for ease-of-use and final results. This is a killer kit from CMA.

I have used both Souveran and S100. I perfer Souveran not by much but I perfer the look of Souveran and it smells really good.

I too own Souveran and S100. Souveran is great stuff but I'm not sure its worth the $$ if you already have P21S. I was amazed at how good S100 was for $15. If you've got $40 to blow and can't stand not knowing, buy the Souveran. But I think you'll be alright if you don't buy it.

BTW, my jar of Souveran was bought in 1998. I keep it in the fridge. It still works fine.

As usually top notch and informative.:bow I am presently reading the "search" threads.

"Forgive me but I am a detailing product junkie ;)". The funny thing I always tell my wife when shopping ," that a sale is only a sale when you need what is on sale". Do I need Souveran when I am perfectly pleased with P21S as a topper? From your responses and reading some search threads, the difference in appearance is so slight that if both products (P21S/Souveran) were equal in price the purchase of the Souveran would just be a duplication. :wavey

You know, since I got P21S I have only used Souveran on my car once and that was just to test the differences. After that test I put the Souveran back on the shelf. It is really good stuff, but P21S is the wax for me. The difference between the two (if any) can't possibly be worth the difference in cost between the two. The smell of Souveran is nice but that doesn't matter much once you have it applied. Actually, in the summer time the smell is a bad thing. It attracts insects to the car I've noticed. I never came out to my car with a hundred bugs all over it until I started using Souveran. That doesn't happen with P21S.

I am a city-slicker presently living in the country. I hate bugs:scared

I have both Souveran and S100 and I really can't tell the diff between the 2 except for price. I think both are superior products that give good results but when you weigh $15.00 vs the cost of Souveran its hard not to choose S100.

Just an aside, according to the info on the website for that place that sells only Pinnacle products, they mention that they share manufacturing of Pinnacle with Terry Frieberg (they also have Souveran at $39.95 plus free shipping on orders over $75). So, there shouldn't be any difference in quality of the stuff. Really, it's hard to imagine them brewing it up in multiple places. I mean, how much Souveran do they really move? It would only be to enthusiasts, not pros. And it lasts a pretty long time.

Also, for 8 oz. of P21S, it would cost $32.20. So Souveran for $39.95 is closer in price than $40 vs. $25 sounds.

And I also tell my wife that something isn't a deal unless you need it, or would have bought it anyway.

I use S100 and Souveran and I think they are both great. The one thing I like about Souveran over S100 is the smell and S100 over Souveran is the price. If you have the extra $$$, buy a jar of Souveran. You can use it as a treat for your senses and your car on occasion. If you're like me, you sometimes just have to buy stuff just to see what all the fuss is about. :D

edit: Although Souveran does cost a lot, I seem to use less when I wax my car than I do with S100. So for me it doesn't really cost that much more.

I can't imagine that you get twice as many coats out of it though. Just out of curiosity, how did you come to discover that your Souveran jar went further than your P21S?

...eh? I think you have www.PROPERautocare.com mixed up with www.PREMIUMautocare.com. CMA doesn't do free shipping on orders over $75. That is a 4 Star thing I think. I just checked CMA's site and when I put in an order for 2 jars of Souveran it came up to about $15 bucks for shipping. Is there some other promotion I'm not aware of with CMA? I'd dig free shipping on orders over $75. I think every order I place is more than that anyway.

Actually, you are mixed up. I am thinking of a site out there that only sells Pinnacle car care products. They don't sell anything except Pinnacle. They have the same Souveran price as that "nerdy" place (they are under the same ownership) and they also have a free shipping deal. I'm quite positive. ;) It was the shipping deal that made me so recklessly try out Pinnacle Leather Conditioner. My mom wanted some interior stuff, liked the smell of the Pinnacle vinyl/rubber sample I had, and decided to order the interior kit. So I figured, why not try the leather conditioner and get free shipping.

Plus, they have Crystal Mist on sale. So it shouldn't be too hard to hit $75. Heck, just get two cans of Souveran. If you don't like it, just make some lovely smelling candles of it or something. :)

Through actual use. I've used S100 about 15 times and I'm down to about 1/2 a jar. I've waxed my car about 10 times with Souveran and have only used about a 1/4 of a jar maybe a little less.
